‎Der in Karlsruhe geborene Künstle Albert Lang begann nach seiner Schulzeit in seiner Geburtstadt am Polytechnikum ein Architekturstudium, das er an der Berliner Bauakademie fortsetzte. Letztendlich brachte ihn ein schlechter Gesundheitszustand, dem er durch eine Italienreise 1869-1870 begegnete, die Hinwendung zur Malerei. Dort bestärkte ihn sein Freund der Münchner Maler Carl Schuch (1846-1903), den er wohl in Venedig kennengelernt hatte, in seinen malerischen Bestrebungen. Nach seiner Rückkehr aus Italien ließ Lang sich in München nieder. Den August 1870 verbrachte er gemeinsam mit Schuch und Wilhelm Trübner (1851-1917) in Bernried am Starnberger See, wo er auch Wilhelm Leibl (1844-1900) kennenlernte. Nach München zurückgekehrt, mietete er mit Schuch und Trübner ein gemeinsames Atelier am Karlstor. Auch zu Hans Thoma (1839-1924), der mit Leibl befreundet war, kam er in Kontakt, dessen Kunstauffassung ? wie die des Franzosen Gustave Courbet (1819-1877), der insbesondere von den Leibl-Anhängern verehrt wurde ? vorbildhaft wurde. Wie Leibl und seine Kunstgenossen sollte Lang zeitlebens die realistische Malerei der zweiten Hälfte des 19. ‎Lang erhielt seine Ausbildung an den Akademien in Stuttgart 1894-1896 und in Karlsruhe 1896-1898. Er machte zunächst eine Lehre bei dem Dekorationsmaler Christian Paul Kämmerer (1868-1950). Nach dem Besuch der Kunstakademien in Stuttgart und Karlsruhe, wo er Schüler des Tiermalers Viktor Weißhaupt (1848-1905) war, arbeitete er als selbständiger Künstler. Seine Holzschnitte zeigen einen unverwechselbaren Stil mit fernöstlichen Einflüssen. Er hatte eine bestimmte, eigene Auffassung von Kunst und Malerei. Manche bezeichneten den jungen Fritz Lang gar als Revolutionär. Seine Werke wurden bereits früh von Sammlern aus dem In- und Ausland, wie dem British Museum London, dem Victoria and Albert Museum Kensington, der Albertina Wien und dem Budapester Museum, gekauft.‎

‎Enthält einen Text von Wolfgang Becker über "das Museum des Nikolaus Lang" in Deutsch und Englisch sowie Bio- Bibliographie und 10 Mappen mit Texten und losen Abbildungstafeln. Beiliegend eine von Nikolaus Lang gestaltete Einladungskarte. Diese besteht aus einer kolorierten Fotopostkarte, die den Rushmore Pond, Wimbledon, mit Badenden zeigt. Die Karte ist eingesteckt in eine geschlitzte Hälfte einer Klappkarte, deren unterer Teil den gedruckten Einladungstext enthält. Lang lädt ein am 2. Mai 1971 in einen Biergarten in Wimbledon und zeigt dort die Objeklte, die er am 17. September 1970 gefunden hat. Die Karte ist handschriftlich persönlich adressiert, unterschrieben Nick. Verso der Karte handschriftlich von Nikokaus Lang an seine Adresse in Wimbledon adressiert. Dabe ein handschriftlich adressiertes Kuvert an die damals in München ansässigen Antiquare Gunnar und Sybille Kaldewey, postalisch gelaufen. Die Einladung ist Teil der Arbeit, die von Lang immer auch als "work in progress" gesehen wird.‎
