In-8°, pp. 39, brossura originale muta con dedica autografa del Promis. 7 tavv. di monete incise su rame f.t. in fine. Ottimo stato. Edizione originale, rara (l'opera ha conosciuto un reprint per la sua scarsa reperibilità). Domenico Promis (Torino, 1804-ivi, 1874), storico, numismatico e archeologo, fu fratello di Carlo Promis e padre di Vincenzo Promis. Definito da Ferdinando Bassoli "il Nestore dei numismatici italiani dell'Ottocento", egli attirò ancor giovanissimo l'attenzione di Carlo Alberto, che acquistò la sua raccolta numismatica e, in cambio, lo nominò conservatore della rinnovata Biblioteca Reale, "dove egli restò fino alla morte e dove la primitiva collezione di monete, da lui ordinata ed ampliata, gli fornì materia durante trent'anni per numerosissime pubblicazioni. Il suo magnus opus restano naturalmente i due volumi... sulle Monete dei Reali di Savoia (Torino, Chirio e Mina, 1841), storia numismatica e catalogo insieme della serie monetale più importante d'Italia dopo quella papale". Fondamentale per il suo tempo e per il periodo considerato è anche la sua memoria Monete dei romani pontefici avanti il Mille, del 1858" (Bassoli, Monete e medaglie nel libro antico, pp. 75-76).
