Fine English Paperback. 4to. (31 x 23 cm). In English and Turkish. 158 p., color plates. The banknotes of the Republic of Turkey.= Türkiye Cumhuriyeti banknotlari. The right of issuing banknote has always been considered as a precious privilege during the history. This privilege, which was conceded to Ottoman Bank asa a state bank in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, was granted to the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey which was established on October 3, 1931 by Law No: 1715 dated June 11, 1930. Until the Republic of Turkey issued the first banknotes in E1 emission group, on December 5, 1927, the "Evrak-i Nakdiye", which inhereted from Ottoman Empire, were in circulation. As the banknotes of E1 emission group had been printed before the date of adoption of Latin alphabet on November 1, 1928, the main text of these of these banknotes was printed in Arabic and denominations were in French. Since 1937, the Central Bank of the Republic of the Republic of Turkey has put into circulation the banknotes that were printed in Latin alphabet in E2, E3, E4, E5, E6 and E7 emission groups. Our banknotes were printed in England, Germany and the United States of America until 1958, the year banknote printing plant commenced producing banknotes. Today, all kinds of design, plate making and printing works that require deep experience have been carried out by Banknote Printing works that has its own equipment and professional staff. "The Banknote Catalogue of the Republic of Turkey" is presented as a useful source, in which you can find the pictures and brief information of all banknotes issued in the republican period. (¿700 FIG. NUMISMATICA). (cm 28) Bella piena pergamena originale, tit. in oro al dorso; pp. VIII, pp. 372, frontis rosso e nero con grande vignetta. Molte illustrazioni grandi e piccole di monete e medaglie, una a piena pagina, varie vignette, il tutto finemente inciso in rame, alcune firmate G.B. Sintes (vedi Benezit XII 848). È il solo terzo volume (di tre) ricercato poiché contiene in fine le monete d¿oro, d¿argento e le medaglie. Erudita opera storico-numismatica apparsa nel 1692, assai importante in quanto riferisce valori e rarità delle singole monete. L¿opera fu ampliata e corretta da G.F. Tre volumi di cm. 27,5, pp. xl, 347; vii, 452; viii, 372. Frontespizi in rosso e nero con una diversa vignetta incisa a ciascuno di essi, molte testate, finalini e capolettera finemente incisi e decine di medaglie intagliate in rame nel testo. Legatura coeva in piena pergamena rigida con titoli in oro su tasselli ai dorsi. Qualche lieve fioritura, ma esemplare complessivamente assai genuino ed in ottimo stato di conservazione. J. Vaillant (1632-1706) intraprese la carriera di medico, ma ben presto i suoi interessi numismatici gli faranno abbandonare la professione per le vantaggiose proposte che il ministro Colbert gli fa di viaggiare per arricchire di monete il Re Sole. Da questa esperienza nasce la presente opera di cui questa è l'editio princeps. Testo di fondamentale importanza che, tra i primi, si preoccupa di indicare il grado di rarità delle monete. Così si esprime il severo Cicognara, a proposito di quest'ultima edizione (con una nota di biasimo per la qualità degli intagli aggiunti): "Gio Franc. Baldini imprese di aumentare, correggere, ampliare quest'opera, e la riprodusse in maniera da riescire utilissima, e stabilire meglio d'ogni altra edizione precedente la fama del suo autore... (le due precedenti stampe di Parigi e Amsterdam) furono oscurate dagli accrescimenti con cui venne pubblicata la prima edizione di Roma". Cfr. anche il bello studio di F. [12], [8], 256, [8] pp. e [6], 397, [33] pp. Illustrato da gradevoli testate, capilettera e finalini incisi in legno e da decine di vignette in rame con la riproduzione recto/verso delle monete presentate nel testo. Legatura coeva in piena pelle con nervi e ricche decorazioni in oro al dorso, titolo su tassello e tagli spruzzati in rosso (piccoli ritocchi). Ex libris di collezione privata al contropiatto anteriore. Alcuni segni di tarlo all’angolo interno dei fascicoli ma lontano dal testo, molto lievi rossori dovuti alla qualità della carta; un buonissimo esemplare in curata legatura del tempo. Erudita opera storico-numismatica di Jean Foy-Vaillant (1632-1706), importante in quanto riporta informazioni su valori e rarità delle singole monete; come la prima (Parigi, Robert de Ninville, Jacques Villery, 1674) e la seconda edizione (Parigi, Thomas Moette, 1682), anche questa terza edizione comprende due libri: il “De Romanis aereis seu Senatusconsulto percussis” con la trattazione delle monete in bronzo; e il “De aureis et argenteis”, con l’elenco delle monete in oro e argento.

Il terzo volume, assai ricercato, contiene, in fine, le monete d’oro, d’argento e le medaglie. La prima edizione, (Parigi, Robert de Ninville, Jacques Villery, 1674), la seconda edizione (Parigi, Thomas Moette, 1682), e la terza edizione (Parigi, Jean Jombert, 1694 – 1696), comprendevano due libri: il “De Romanis aereis seu Senatusconsulto percussis” e il “ De aureis et argenteis”. Queste edizioni, solo successivamente furono portate a tre voll. e corrette da G. F. Baldini (cfr. Cicognara e Brunet). I tre volumi costituiscono un erudito apparato storico numismatico relativo alle antiche monete romane, che riporta valori e rarità delle singole monete e che è corredato da tavole finemente incise. J.
