Following years of meticulous research and additional rare material made it possible for us to publish the second book of the series again based on The Alexander Collection covering the Civil Post Offices in Jerusalem from 1840 to 1918 when the Ottoman rule ended in Palestine. The book tells the story of communication under the Ottoman rule commencing with the earliest known letter recorded from Jerusalem to the latest recorded letter. it also includes several unique letters and postcards within the Holy Land. We are planning to publish the last book in the trilogy covering civil post offices in other parts of the Palestine in the very near future.‎

Ex-libris armorié Paul de Cauville.‎

‎Frontispice et 40 planches gravées de quelques centaines de jetons et médailles couvrant les années 1804 à 1810. Un second volume qui devait aller jusqu'en 1815 n'a jamais paru. Les planches sont gravées selon le procédé mis au point en France par Achille Collas (1795-1859) dans les années 1830. Les illustrations ont été produites avec une machine à règles pantographiques, ce qui en fait les plus précises jamais réalisées avant les plaques photographiques. Cette innovation technique, largement saluée à lépoque, est aujourdhui relativement peu connue. Rare.‎

‎Summary The Scythians have fascinated investigators since the time of Herodotus. This study examines the bronze and silver coinage of the kingdom of Scythia Minor in Dobruja at the mouth of the Danube River, a Scythian successor state that emerged in the second century BCE after the breakup of Scythia Magna. It is based on a corpus of over 1,500 coins, more than ever before, and draws upon scholarship in nine languages, including hard-to-find sources from Bulgaria, Romania, USSR, Ukraine, and Russia. The much-debated chronology of the six kings of Scythia Minor (Kanites, Tanousas, Charaspes, Ailis, Sariakes, and Akrosas) is determined through literary evidence, inscriptions, die linkage, shared monograms, coin hoards, and counterstamps. Metrological analysis distinguishes four denominations, plus the alterations and debasements of the weight standard during the troubled reigns of Ailis and Sariakes. Fifteen counterstamps that appear on Scythian coins are attributed to the local Greek poleis of Callatis, Tomis, Istros, and Dionysopolis. An inventory of four hoards and 47 findspots of single coins identifies the mint site, Dionysopolis. The volume concludes with a catalog of 63 major coin types and 15 counterstamps, plus bibliography and index. ‎La principale modification par rapport à la première édition consiste en ce que les bibliographies partielles qui venaient la fin des chapitres sont remplacées par une bibliographie générale critique au commencement du volume. M. Enlart ne croit pas à l'existence des écoles régionales en France pendant le XIe siècle : à cette époque l'architecture romane est relativement uniforme, le XIIème siècle au contraire présente " des variétés infinies". M. Enlart y distingue une division fondamentale : d' une part "les écoles romanes de la France ", d'autre part l'école lombarde avec l'école rhénane qui en procède". Notons en passant que dans la première édition, le second groupe était dénommé "l'école germanique". Ici encore l'art lombard tend à prendre une des premières places. (J. A.
