This solitary place was a pilgrim sanctuary and the sacred center for the ancient Karians; a paved road for sacred processions led there from Milas. The shrine at Labraunda was the most important one in this part of Karia. This guide to the Swedish excavations contains both a description of the buildings that were erected in honour of the god Zeus Labraundos and an account of how the site was rediscovered in the 19th century. Labraunda is worth a visit not only because of the well-preserved remains of the unique banqueting hall Andron A and the other ruins, but also for the beautiful location and the splendid panorama view it offers. It is also unusual to find an ancient sanctuary, which, after its heyday, remained almost unchanged. It is therefore still possible to imagine what the sanctuary looked like in the 4th century BC, at the time when Karia was ruled by Maussollos and Idrieus.

Der im Jahr 2000 entdeckte Schatzfund von Beçin (beim heutigen Milas in der Südwest-Türkei) ist mit knapp 50.000 islamischen und über 800 europäischen Münzen der größte Hort, der jemals in der Türkei im Zuge regulärer archäologischer Grabungen gefunden wurde, und zugleich der größte osmanische Münzschatz überhaupt. Der vorliegende Band stellt die Ergebnisse der archäologischen, historischen, wirtschaftsgeschichtlichen und numismatischen Analysen vor, die von einem türkisch-österreichischen Forschungsteam erarbeitet wurden. Die große Menge osmanischer Münzen ermöglichte ein in dieser Feinheit bisher unbekanntes Verständnis des osmanischen Prägesystems im späten 16. und frühen 17. Jahrhundert. Auf dieser Grundlage wird der Quellenwert der Münze für die osmanische Wirtschafts- und Verwaltungsgeschichte revolutioniert. Auch für die numismatische Beschäftigung mit der Münzprägung des Osmanischen Reiches wird dieser Band richtungweisend sein. - The 2000 discovery of a treasure trove at Becin (by what today is Milas in southwest-Turkey) includes just under 50,000 Islamic and about 800 European coins in the greatest hoard that has ever been found in Turkey as part of regular archaeological excavation. Stratonikeia antik kentindeki ilk kazilar 1 Agustos 1977 yilinda Prof. Dr. Yusuf Boysal baskanliginda bir ekip tarafindan baslatilmistir. Bundan sonra kentin icindeki yapilarin disinda, en cok kazi yapilan alanlardan birisi nekropoller olmustur. Kentin cevresinde farkli nekropoller bulunmakla birlikte, mezarlarin en yogun bulundugu ve kazilarin yapildigi yer ise Stratonikeia ile Lagina arasindaki kutsal yolun cevresindeki alanlardir. Bu nekropollere ait mezarlar Kuzey Sehir Kapisi onunden baslayip, farkli mevkilerde yaklasik 3 km devam etmistir. Sonrasinda ise Kutsal yol kenarindaki diger kucuk yerlesmelerin nekropollerine ait mezarlar bulunmaktadir. Kentin kuzeyinde bulunan ve nekropollerin icinde kaldigi araziler, komur dekupaj alaninda yer aldigindan, buradaki mezarlarin tamaminin belli zamanlarda hizli bir sekilde kazisi yapilmak zorunda kalinmistir. Yapilan kazilara bagli olarak pek cok mezar ve bunlara ait buluntu ele gecmistir. Kazisi yapilan mezarlara ait buluntularin degerlendirildigi ilk Doktora calismasi A. Baldiran tarafindan ?Stratonikeia Nekropol Buluntulari? adiyla 1990 yilinda yapilmistir. Bundan sonraki surecte de ayni alanda mezar kazilari devam etmistir. Bu mezar kazilarindan en cok toplu mezar ve buluntuya sahip olunan yerlerden birisini Akdag Nekropolu olusturmaktadir. Bir bolumune heyet uyesi olarak benim de katildigim bu mezar kazilari yil boyu devam eden calismalar halinde surdurulmustur. Akdag Nekropolu?nde bulunan mezarlar ve onlarin buluntulari hakkinda R. Tamsu Polat tarafindan ?Stratonikeia Akdag Nekropolu: Somut ve Soyut Kultur Uzerine Bir Arastirma? adiyla 2013 yilinda Doktora tezi olarak hazirlanmistir. Bu doktora calismalarinin disinda ayni bolgedeki mezarlar ile ilgili hazirlanmis yuksek lisans tezleri ve tekil makaleler de bulunmaktadir. Ancak boylesine zengin buluntuya sahip ve farkli mezar orneklerinin tespit edildigi kentin nekropolu ile ilgili toplu bir calisma yapilmamistir.
