IV contemporarily bound to match. Bound without half-titles. With 18 folding plates. Slight loss to fore edge of pp. 225-6 in vol. II. Touch of wear to extremities slight rubbing to sides top edges faintly dust toned light foxing gathering 11 of vol. I a little loose; a very good handsomely bound set. Second edition from the library of the 33rd Regiment of Foot all but volume IV inscribed "Library 33rd Regiment 21st July 1824" to the front free endpapers volume IV dated "20th April 1825". The 33rd Regiment of Foot served as part of the 5th Brigade at Waterloo under the command of Major General Sir Colin Halkett. They were renamed The Duke of Wellington's Regiment in 1853 the year following his death due to their long and close connection; The Duke of Wellington purchased a commission in the 33rd as a Major in 1793 and was promoted to full Colonel by seniority on 3 May 1796. Following Waterloo the 33rd Regiment returned to the UK in 1816 and were kept on the march between Hull Sunderland Nottingham and Portsmouth. In 1821 the Regiment was sent to the West Indies where it was based until 1832 this set therefore likely to have been inscribed on the islands. This set has additionally been inscribed in pencil in the margins of three pages in volumes I and II of the Historical Miscellanies correcting the information given regarding the British Army for example on page 86 of volume I noting that the army was 14000 not 18000 strong. The second edition was published in the same year as the first with volume IV dated 1824 as issued and volumes V to VII with the title Historical Miscellanies and numbered volume I to III.
