Sebbene il Kalevala abbia fornito una sorta di fisionomia "ufficiale" al mondo mitico e magico degli antichi finni, esso non può essere utilizzato come fonte per la nostra conoscenza della religione baltofinnica proprio a causa del pesante adstrato interpretativo imposto dal suo compilatore, Elias Lönnrot. Bisogna allora risalire alle fonti letterarie pre-kalevaliane per riscoprire parte degli aspetti originali degli dèi e degli eroi della tradizione finlandese e careliana. Il più antico documento sulla religione finnica è un peritesto poetico scritto da Mikael Agricola (1510-1557), primo vescovo finlandese della Riforma, come prefazione a una sua traduzione di alcuni salmi dell'Antico Testamento. Non solo vi traspare un quadro vivido delle divinità adorate in Häme e in Carelia, ma viene anche fornito un ritratto inedito di alcuni dei futuri eroi del Kalevala.

Turkish composer Adnan Saygun composed this set of children's pieces in 1934. The paper provides information about the developments in the field of music in the early years of the Republic of Turkey, first generation composers, called "The Turkish Five", including Ahmed Adnan Saygun. The score includes a page of commentary about the composer and work. Ahmet Adnan Saygun was a Turkish composer, musicologist and writer on music. One of a group of composers known as the Turkish Five who pioneered western classical music in Turkey, his works show a mastery of Western musical practice, while also incorporating traditional Turkish folk songs and culture. When alluding to folk elements he tends to spotlight one note of the scale and weave a melody around it, based on a Turkish mode. His extensive output includes five symphonies, five operas, two piano concertos, concertos for violin, viola and cello, and a wide range of chamber and choral works. The Times called him "the grand old man of Turkish music, who was to his country what Jean Sibelius is to Finland, what Manuel de Falla is to Spain, and what Béla Bartók is to Hungary". Saygun was growing up in Turkey he witnessed radical changes in his country's politics and culture as the reforms of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk had replaced the Ottoman Empire -which had ruled for nearly 600 years- with a new secular republic based on Western models and traditions. As Atatürk had created a new cultural identity for his people and newly founded nation, Saygun found his role in developing what Atatürk had begun. It's a symphonic arrangement. L'arte di annacarsi. Un viaggio in Sicilia. Ediz. illustrata
ill., br. Annacare/annacarsi è in dialetto siciliano un verbo insidioso, difficilmente traducibile in italiano. Quel che più si avvicina è cullare/cullarsi, ma non è proprio la stessa cosa. L'arte di annacarsi prevede il muoversi il massimo per spostarsi il minimo. Una immagine che descrive bene lo spirito dell'isola e più ancora la disposizione d'animo dei siciliani tessuta di diffidenza. Ogni viaggio in Sicilia, anche quello intrapreso in questo libro, diventa una specie di danza immobile attorno alla geografia e alla filosofia, alla storia, al folklore e alla gastronomia, scoprendo che fra le diverse discipline esistono continui rimandi a una trama inestricabile. "Pur restando immobile, l'Isola si muove. Non è uno di quei posti dove si va a cercare la conferma delle proprie conoscenze. È invece un teatro dove le cose succedono da un momento all'altro. È un susseguirsi di scatti prolungati, pause per rifiatare e ancora fughe in avanti". Come l'Isola, Alajmo procede a zig-zag in un itinerario non lineare, senza vincoli di percorso né di tempo, da un capo all'altro, sulla base di pure suggestioni, guidato dalla bellezza, accompagnato da un lucido pessimismo. Come un atto d'amore che non si nasconde nessuna vergogna dell'oggetto amato: capita di innamorarsi di una canaglia. E anche se lo sai, che puoi farci?
