Thierry Hermes, cittadino francese nato in terra tedesca, apre al numero 55 dell'elegante Rue Basse-du-Rempart (oggi assorbita nel Boulevard des Capucines) una manifattura di finimenti per cavalli. La qualità è eccelsa e già all'Esposizione Universale del 1867 Hermes vince la medaglia d'argento di prima classe. In pochi decenni il suo nome conquista l'aristocrazia europea e la rampante borghesia francese. Nel 1897 avviene la svolta: la casa, ora guidata dal figlio Charles-Emile (nella nuova, storica sede di 24, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré), mette in commercio il "Sac Haut à Courroies", una grande borsa in cuoio destinata a contenere sella, briglie, morsi e bardature varie. Presto, però, si scopre che al posto di sella e briglie la borsa può ospitare una gran quantità di oggetti differenti, tutti quelli che un vero viaggiatore desidera avere con sé, ovunque nel mondo e in qualsiasi momento. Hermes entra così nel mercato della moda. Da allora, generazione dopo generazione (oggi siamo alla sesta, rappresentata da Pierre-Alexis Dumas e Pascale Mussard), Hermes ha allargato il suo raggio d'azione che - oltre ai prodotti per l'equitazione e a tanti diversi modelli di borse - comprende foulard, sciarpe, cravatte, abiti, calzature, profumi, orologi, bijoux, porcellane, argenti, cristalli.

brossura Le "Leggende euganee", pubblicate per la prima volta nel 1941 con lo pseudonimo di Sellida Ilvaro, costituiscono l'opera più riuscita di Silvia Rodella, la cui genesi e "poetica" sono ben condensate nella Premessa: "Così gli Euganei mi presero tutta, il cipresso ha saputo dirmi tante cose e ogni angolo di questa terra mi ha narrato la sua storia, perché dell'essere amato si ama ogni cosa". Il vero protagonista dell'opera di Rodella è il paesaggio, che si estende nella fascia meridionale dei Colli tra Lozzo, Este, Arquà Petrarca. La ricchezza e la precisione dei particolari nelle descrizioni delle località in cui sono ambientate le leggende sono evidentemente il frutto di una esperienza diretta, "sul campo", di luoghi, sentieri, corsi d'acqua, speroni rocciosi, che solo una camminatrice poteva acquisire. "Leggende euganee" è quindi un'opera che merita di essere riscoperta e riletta, anche perché testimonia una sensibilità pionieristica per la conoscenza del patrimonio paesaggistico dei Colli Euganei.

Leah and Konin were promised to one another by their fathers even before they were born. However when Leah is old enough to be married Sender her father wants her betrothed to a rich man. Konin now a poor orphaned scholar meets Leah and they fall instantly irrevocably in love. Thwarted by Sender's greed the young man studies the Kabbalah searching for a way to obtain the necessary wealth. When he fails he dies and comes back as a dybbuk an unhappy spirit that possesses Leah's body and speaks through her lips. Though an exorcism is performed she chooses to rejoin Konin and dies before she can marry the man her father has selected. Stories of the supernatural have undeniable appeal but this one with its archaic setting and strongly religious connections seems too specialized for most collections. Rogasky's writing which is full of inverted phrases e.g. Pious and sincere they were or Old it is centuries old is distancing--even though she addresses readers directly at times Forgive me Dear Reader. I cannot explain the meaning of all that happened. A Jewish legend about a girl's possession by a dybbuk or restless spirit is strikingly retold in a picture book that fits as smoothly into collections of children's Judaica as it does in sections of scary Halloween stories. Rogasky chooses to tell her version in a narrative longer than a traditional picture book but she doesn't expend words idly; her storytelling is rich and powerful as adept in conveying a sense of Hasidic culture as it is in narrating moments of sheer terror. These are terrifying indeed: Rogasky's dybbuk is a poor orphan boy who dies when his destined fiancee is promised to another and returns as a ghost to be united with his true love. Extending the horror are starkly composed monumental oils in inky blacks and moonlit grays by venerable illustrator Fisher. Particularly noteworthy is Rogasky's distinct treatment of various voices ranging from the narrator's intimate tone to the villagers' gossipy banter to the ghost's creepy pronouncements. Ji aliyê din dema ev pirtûk hate berçavkirin, xwendevan ê bibîne ku, jinan di folklora kurdî de ji xwe re textek ava kirine û serdestiyeke wan heye. Di folklora kurdî de gotin "gotina jina" ye û kilam "kilamên keçikan" in.

The only Freudian to have been originally trained in folklore and the first psychoanalytic anthropologist to carry out fieldwork Geza Roheim 1891-1953 contributed susbstantially to the worldwide study of cultures.
