Die abenteuerliche Geschichte des Polycarpus erzählt "wie er dritthalb-hundert Jahre vor seiner Geburt viele Länder durchwandert hat und zuletzt von seiner Mutter todt liegend gefunden aufgehoben und von Neuem geboren worden ist" u. endet in fast parodistischen Versen in denen der Finkenritter von sich u. seinen Tätigkeiten u.a. als Postbote erzählt. - Der Schriftsteller u. Übersetzer O. L. B. Wolff 1799 Altona - 1851 Jena Sohn wohlhabender jüdischer Eltern studierte Philosophie u. trat 1825 in Hamburg erstmals als Improvisator mit solchem Glück auf daß er den Versuch bald in Berlin wiederholte u. seither in ganz Deutschland als Vortragsmeister in der Kunst des Stegreifs sich einen Namen erwarb. Seit 1829 war er Professor der neueren Sprachen u. Literaturen in Jena Kosch IV S. 3444; vgl. ADB 44 S. 9-12; Schröder 4491. - Unbeschnitten durchg.
