Ginecologo stimato e amato, musicofilo sensibile e appassionato, prosatore forbito e poeta ispirato in lingua e soprattutto in dialetto napoletano, egli apparteneva alla gloriosa schiera partenopea dei medici scrittori. A Napoli si era trasferito nei lontani anni cinquanta per meglio assolvere i doveri della sua professione, sempre esercitata con competenza, scrupolosità e solidarietà verso i pazienti. E di Napoli era innamorato, pur se dolente per il degrado e per l’incremento della delinquenza: fine cultore della napoletanità, aveva dedicato quasi tutte le sue opere all'incanto del suo panorama, alla singolare sensibilità del suo popolo e alla rievocazione dei suoi costumi e delle sue tradizioni. Particolarmente saporosa e colorita la sua produzione narrativa: ‘O cavaliere Arturo (con prefazione di Mario Scarpetta, 1995), Racconti napoletani (1994). Pervasa da profonda spiritualità La leggenda del Padre Bernardino francescano (1997), ispirata a una popolare figura di frate vissuto negli anni trenta, il Padre Bernardino Lombardi da Laus domini, già missionario in terre lontane, poi divenuto cieco e ritornato nel Convento di S. Vito, amato per la sua umiltà e seraficità, non mai stanco di testimoniare la fede ed esortare al bene le anime attraverso la predicazione e la confessione, esercitata con saggezza e comprensione tali da rasserenare i suoi penitenti. L’autore ricorda che alcuni concittadini pellegrini a Betlemme raccontarono di averlo visto aggirarsi nei luoghi santi e recarsi presso l’Altare della Natività a celebrare la S. Messa durante la notte di Natale, proprio la notte in cui egli era morto: “un miracolo, dunque, come quello di Sant'Antonio”? Pregevoli sono anche le varie sillogi poetiche, tra cui: Napule dint’’o core (con prefazione di Francesco Serao, 2000), Raccolta-Pensieri in versi (2004). Opere “conteste di toni struggenti od elegiaci, di bagliori religiosi come di motivi umoristici”, gratificate di lusinghieri apprezzamenti da parte di illustri critici e di famosi artisti napoletani. Ad esse fanno degna corona gli inediti, come I Canti della Sirena Partenope; il romanzo Anelli di fumo; Inno all'amore; Musica amica mia. L’ultima silloge poetica, in particolare, Memorie e sentimenti di una Napoli che non muore (2006), impreziosita da significative illustrazioni policrome, conferma la fedeltà a una poetica di fragrante colloquialità, venata di amabile saggezza e acuta nostalgia, e animata da un sicuro gusto pittorico (ove ritornano i “colori forti e struggenti della scuola di Posillipo” ravvisati da Stefano de Stefano nella prima silloge) e musicale, amico di misurate morbidezze melodiche. Nelle venti liriche accanto al fascino dell’amore e della musica campeggiano le scene di vita partenopea rivissute con intima adesione alla genuina anima popolare, al dialogo frizzante, all'accomodante amabilità (“Onna Rusì, nun date audienza a iere, / Acqua passata. Dàmmece nu vase”), propensa a dissipare ogni tensione nella gioia del convito (“Tutto fernesce a tarallucci e vino”). Visioni suggestive di paesaggi, solari o lunari, fanno da sfondo al vario atteggiarsi dell’amore, dolente o lieto, nostalgico o condito “da vase azzeccuse e ‘ntennerute”: un racconto saporoso e accattivante, visivo e plastico, in un linguaggio cordiale e immediatamente comunicativo, dall'aggettivazione colorita e sapida, atto a rendere le cangianti sfaccettature dei sentimenti, anche in virtù della fluidità del verso, metricamente impeccabile, che asseconda docile il movimento della fantasia.
