La moda italiana nel XV secolo. Abbigliamento e accessori
ill., br. "Chi vede nella moda soltanto la moda è uno sciocco", sentenziava Honoré de Balzac nel 'Trattato della vita elegante'. Moda significa modo di atteggiarsi, di agghindarsi. Con questo termine solitamente ci si riferisce alla classe blasonata ma le tendenze del costume, seppure in ritardo e modificate, di fatto coinvolgono anche i ceti più bassi. Il Quattrocento fu un'epoca di cambiamenti e innovazioni, tanto da decretare per alcuni il passaggio dal Medioevo all'Età Moderna. Nei primi decenni di tale temperie socio-culturale la moda risente ancora del linearismo verticale trecentesco tipicamente gotico mentre, progredendo verso il Cinquecento, l'abbigliamento assume una connotazione rinnovata. Questa ricerca prende in esame il costume italiano nel XV secolo, analizzando gli abiti femminili, maschili e infantili, gli accessori, i tessuti e i colori attraverso lo studio di reperti originali, documenti, leggi suntuarie e fonti iconografiche. L'autrice tenta così di evidenziare la struttura sartoriale dei principali capi in uso nelle varie classi sociali, proponendo anche ricostruzioni di propria creazione, svelando il valore e il significato che al tempo veniva attribuito all'apparire.

I due autori studiano le narrazioni classiche del mito, ma sanno riattualizzarle per rendercele familiari e ancora indicative di un prossimo futuro di riconciliazione con la natura e l'acqua, fonte di vita.
