People's Songs was founded by Pete Seeger Alan Lomax Lee Hays and others on December 31 1945 to "create promote and distribute songs of labor and the American people."Vol. I No.1. The cover artists included African-American master artist Jacob Lawrence. Chuck Ro Ben Ossa Ronnie Gilbert David Stors Martin and Joseph Haber. It served as the precursor for folk music magazines like Sing Out and Broadside. Individual issues are seen infrequently in todays marketplace.
