Romance of Horn is an Anglo-Norman literature romans d'aventure "romance and adventure" tale written around 1170 by an anonymous author named "Thomas". The hero named Horn is the son of the king A�lof of Suddene probably somewhere near Devon. Horn becomes orphaned when he is set adrift in a boat from the shores of southern England and reaches Brittany where he grows to manhood and falls in love with the king's daughter Rigmel. There he defends the kingdom from invading Saracens but the king banishes him to Ireland. In Ireland he falls in love once more with the king's daughter but then finally returns to Brittany and after a series of adventures marries Rigmel and eventually assumes the throne there. The story became the base for one of the earliest Middle English romances King Horn written around 1225.; 8vo; 215 pages . Macmillan hardcover

As such its measurements and construction are supposed to represent various messages about the nature of god and to prophesy key occurrences in the history of the world. I present a few of the events supposedly foretold by an arcane and contrived method of taking dates from measurements of the turnings in the internal passageways of the pyramid : 4000 BC. The year of man's creation. Any evidence of man before this date must obviously be wrong as unbiblical. 2344 BC. The Great Flood. Saturday October 6 4 BC. Birth of Christ. Friday April 7 AD 30. Death of Christ. AD 1558. Start of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. 25 January 1844. Amongst other items the passing of the Bank Charter Act. August 2 1909. Czar of Russia met King Edward and inspected the Great Fleet at Clowes. December 2 1924. 'On this date the new English Parliament met for the first time after the Labour Party Parliament which resigned had been in power only 286 days'. You would be entitled to think it a little odd that good King Enoch went to all that trouble to forecast a relatively minor date in British political history but in Riffert's loopy worldview this is perfectly natural. For Riffert was one of the British-Israelites who believed that the British were in fact the ten lost tribes of Israel and hence God's Chosen People. One look and Mary got so upset about her appearance that she gathered up her things to trade and went off to town for a completely new outfit. After admiring herself in the mirror though she discovered that "looking fine" and "feeling fine" are not at all the same. The lyrical humorous drawings make Mary's discovery a joyful surprise for every reader. Unpaginated. The top of the boards and spine are slightly sunned; the bottom are slightly shelf worn with light wear at the corners. The author inscribed the book on the half-title page "SMILE in large fat letters To Donna - Hoping that you're fine!" and his signature. At the word Donna it looks like another word was put in and erased out because the paper is rough around her name. The title is imprinted on the front of the binding which is green. There is a 1/4" tear at the top right corner and light wrinkles on the jacket top. The front edge is lightly worn and both sides have light wear to the bottom corners. The ends of the spine are a bit wrinkled with more wear at the bottom and a small spot on the front. Now in a protective cover. ; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall; Signed by Authors . The pages have a 1 1/4" x 1/2" water stain at the bottom and a small bump at the top. The corners are very lightly worn. The jacket has a 1" tear at the top front near the spine and another 1" tear near the flap. There are small tears along the bottom and spine head and a 1/2" tear at the bottom back. There is also a closed tear at the front gutter and a water stain on the inside of the jacket that shows through very lightly to the outside being at the front and spine.
