This was their one and only meeting point out of necessity as they did not have any associations, cafes or restaurants of their own to gather and socialise. Although it is known that some Turkish Cypriots arrived in London in the 1920's and 1930's Turkish Cypriots started coming in bigger numbers to London in the 1940's and 'Güvercinlik' is the place where their journey started.

The literature on the origins of the incest taboo is characterized by controversy over the nature/nurture issue and fears of reductionism. In recent years work emanating from such diverse disciplines as cultural and physical anthropology ethology and neuropsychology warrants a new look at this intriguing issue. It is probable that incest avoidance is widespread among the vertebrata and is "built into the wiring." As learned behavior becomes more important phylogenectically curiosity and exploration plays a larger a larger role in adaptation and has manifest survival advantages. Incest avoidance functions as a mechanism to propel the individual into new relationships and "social territory." For humans incest avoidance and its later elaboration into a cultural taboo serve to motivate exploration of and attachment to a wider social nexus than the family. First printing of the 13th Folio Society publication and uncommon in the dustjacket. This one has a large v-shaped piece missing from the top front and several smaller chips and tears to edges. The colour is still good with light soiling. Having been protected by the dj the boards are unusually clean square and sharp with bumping to spine head and pushing to tail. Bound in full red cloth with a silhouette in gold slightly dulled by Cecil Beaton which is repeated in black on the dj. 120 pp; frontispiece and 8 other full-page colour plates showing costume designs by Beaton along with 5 b/w plates of set designs all of which are in vg clean condition. The book was published to coincide with the opening of the Old Vic production by Olivier who also played Sir Peter Teazle for which the set and costume designs had been made. 8vo - over 7�" - 9�" tall. <br/> <br/> The Folio Society hardcover
