‎Paris, chez Madame Tourreil, 1860, in-8, broché ; recueil de 22 lettres datées de 1845 à 1859, de 4 à 78 pages,avec pagination particulière, imprimées séparément et réunies avec une table de leur ordre de classement (qui n’est pas chronologique), suivie d’une table analytique ; suivi d’un ensemble de 28 pages, non prévu, contenant les prières, rites religieux et symboles fusioniens.‎

‎Notre recueil n’est pas complet, il lui manque 6 lettres (8 à 11, 16 et 18) ; cependant les 16 lettres présentes (dont une adressée à l’Emir Abd-El-Kader) ainsi que le rituel ajouté en fin d’ouvrage, sont largement représentatifs de la doctrine de la Religion Universelle prônée par Louis Tourreil dès 1845. Cet ensemble, qui a échappé à Caillet et Dorbon, est de toute rareté. Les ouvrages de L. Tourreil signalés (Caillet - 10 781 et Dorbon - 4 899, 4 901) sont tous postérieurs à son décès, survenu le 9 avril 1863.Pour Pierre Larousse, "cette religion était basée sur l’égalité sociale appuyée elle-même sur le sentiment religieux". Grâce à son talent et à son éloquence persuasive, Louis Tourreil réussit à s’entourer d’un nombre conséquent de disciples. Ni la Révolution de 1848, ni le Second Empire ne réussirent à disperser cette " secte " puisque les ouvrages de Tourreil furent édités au moins jusqu’en 1902. Il semblerait qu’une Colonie agricole, commerciale et industrielle soit fondée à Saint-Just vers 1850, elle semble avoir été éphémère. Brochage muet avec manques, dos renforcé, quelques feuillets défraichis, petit manque de texte au dernier feuillet d’index.‎

‎<p>Ê¿Abd al-Raḥman al-JabartÄ« 1753–1825 is the most important historian of late Ottoman Egypt. His <em>Marvelous Chronicles: Biographies and Events</em> <em>Ê¿AjÄʾib al-Ä€thÄr fÄ« ʼl-TarÄjim wa-ʼl-AkhbÄr</em> covers the history of Egypt from 1688 to 1821 a period which includes Napoleon’s invasion and the French occupation of the country 1798–1801. The historical narrative is combined with numerous biographies and throughout the entire work the author demonstrates his wide knowledge of both Islamic learning <em>al-Ê¿ulÅ«m al-naqliyya</em> and of the new secular sciences <em>al-Ê¿ulÅ«m al-Ê¿aqliyya</em>. Al-JabartÄ« was well aware of the significance of the French invasion which marked the beginning of modern European incursions into the Middle East and was much concerned to preserve the dominance of Islamic values at a time when they were threatened by the decline in the status of the <em>Ê¿ulamÄʾ</em> and by the military weakness of the Ottoman Empire.</p><p>The BÅ«lÄq edition of the <em>Ê¿AjÄʾib</em> 1880 which has been the most widely used so far is based on manuscripts copied after the author’s death in 1825. The copyists of these manuscripts took liberties with the author’s style and grammar in order to make them compatible with the rules of classical Arabic. They also changed toponyms and official titles in order to bring them in line with the usage introduced after Muḥammad Ê¿Alī’s invasion in 1801. The later editions published in Cairo and Beirut are merely copies of the BÅ«lÄq edition.</p><p>The present edition prepared by Shmuel Moreh of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is the first to offer a critical text. It is based on the autograph manuscript preserved in the Cambridge University Library. Moreh collated the autograph with the MSS of al-Jabartī’s two short histories of the French occupation of Egypt <em>Muddat al-FaransÄ«s bi-Miá¹£r</em> and <em>Maẓhar al-taqdÄ«s bi-dhahÄb dawlat al-FaransÄ«s</em>. He also collated it with a number of other manuscripts of the <em>Ê¿AjÄʾib</em> paying particular attention to the MSS which had been copied under al-Jabartī’s own supervision. Al-JabartÄ« checked these copies himself writing his corrections on the margins. Especially noteworthy is a manuscript in MaghribÄ« script which was checked by the author and belonged to his friend Ḥasan al-Ê¿Aá¹­á¹­ar. Al-Ê¿Aá¹­á¹­ar took this MS with him on his travels adding a variety of materials some inspired by al-JabartÄ« himself. Al-Ê¿Aá¹­á¹­ar’s material has been used in the present edition. Moreh has restored as far as possible the original grammatical usage and style of al-JabartÄ« and his text includes passages omitted from the BÅ«lÄq edition.
