Boston: Perkins & Marvin 1830. First edition. Hardcover. 8vo. pp. viii 280. Bound in quarter cloth and paper boards; re-backed preserving the original spine well worn. Some rubbing and wear present to extremities. Pages contain periodic marginal foxing or tanning. One of two binders blanks is lacking in the rear. Inner hinges are neatly and professionally strengthened. An institutional bookplate is pasted on the inside front cover stating that the book was presented by Mr. Henry Gassett. The front free end paper also displays an old presentation inscription. Henry Gassett was an avid anti-Masonic propagandist and a friend of former President John Quincy Adams. Gassett donated anti-Masonic literature to numerous libraries in the United States. James Odiorne compiled this anthology of period anti-Masonic articles which were originally published in newspapers and pamphlets by various authors. The articles are an expression of the anti-Masonic furor which spread through the United States following the supposed 1826 kidnapping and murder of William Morgan at the hands of Freemasons.

Perkins & Marvin hardcover
