Einbände stark beschabt, bestoßen und wasserfleckig, Vorsatz des ersten Bandes mit Besitzvermerk von alter Hand in Tinte und drei kleineren Ausrissen im fliegenden Blatt, Seiten durchweg etwas gebräunt, zum Teil mit kleineren Randläsuren und stellenweise etwas stockfleckig bzw. mit schmalem, etwas nachgebräuntem Wasserrand (Band 1 stärker, Bände 2 und 3 deutlich geringer betroffen), an wenigen Stellen im Falz etwas gelockert, vereinzelt handschriftliche Marginalien von alter Hand in Tinte, ansonsten gutes Exemplar.‎

Mit rot-schwarz gedruckten Titelblättern je mit großer, allegorischer Titelvignette, gestochen durch Piquet, und zahlreichen kleinen, ornamentalen Holzschnittvignetten und -initialen im Text. Agostinho Barbosa (1589-1649) war Bischof, Kanonist und vorwiegend in Rom tätig. Der Lehre in außergewöhnlichem Maße verbunden, lernte Barbosa, der sich zu seiner Anfangszeit in Rom noch keine eigenen Bücher leisten konnte, deren Inhalte, die er sich über Bibliotheken erschloss, kurzerhand auswendig. Sein Werk ist umfassend und allein seine kirchenrechtlichen Schriften, die in Lyon zwischen 1657 und 1675 gesammelt publiziert wurden, umfassten 19 Bände. Einband deutlicher berieben, etwas fleckig und mit kleineren Fehlstellen und Einrissen an den Kanten, vorderer Außenfalz gerissen und hinterer Außenfalz eingerissen (Bindung jedoch fest), Vorsätze und Titelblatt gering leimschattig und berieben, Paginierung selten springend (Text auch dort vollständig und fortlaufend), Titelblatt mit Namen von alter Hand in Tinte und etwas knickspurig, fast durchweg mit zumeist sehr dezentem Wasserrand (zu Beginn und Ende etwas deutlicher, selten mit geringer Textberührung, nicht gewellt, nur wenig gedunkelt) und vereinzelt kleinem Tintenfleck in den Stegen, Seiten nur minimal gebräunt, Seite 445 von Band 4 mit kleiner Kugelschreibernotiz im Ausßensteg (6 Ziffern bzw. Buchstaben). Außen beanspruchtes, insgesamt und insbesondere innen dennoch gutes und ansprechendes Exemplar. Leather binding of the times with 6 raised bands and spine with gilt embossed floral book decoration. Early enlarged edition and revised by the author. With red and black printed title pages with allegorical title vignette engraved by Piquet, and many small ornamental wood cut vignettes and initials within the texts. Binding rubbed, stained and with small defects to the leather, joints partially torn (binding firm though), endpapers and title page a little bookbinder's glue stained and a little rubbed, pagination with few errors (text continuous and complete though), title page with old name in ink and few crease marks, pages almost throughout with mainly unobtrusive tidemark (a bit more noticeable at the beginning and the end, rarely affecting the text, not wavy, for the greater part only very lightly darkened), few margins with small ink stain, pages altogether only very lightly darkened, page 445 of volume 4 with small pen inscription (6 characters). Exterior a bit worn, but interior in good condition and still attractive.‎

Encyclopédiste, il a fourni plusieurs articles : Cornées, Déluges, Guêtres, Langue hébraïque. Nous avons trouvé au moins quatre colations différentes pour cet ouvrage que la BNF donne comme imprimée à Genève. Il s'achève par des Observations sur le livre "De l'Esprit des lois" et sur l'admiration qu'il porte à Montesquieu. Bas du mors supérieur légèrement fendillé, sinon bon exemplaire.‎
