The sale contained an exceptional piece of furniture designed by Jules Debois (1851- 1935). A fine art nouveau bureau with sculptural ornaments of silver designed in 1902-03. The rest of the sale contained School of Paris paintings, prints and monotypes. No prices realized, just estimates for each piece except the Meuble-Sirene (estimation sur demand). All lots illustrated in color. The Meuble Sirene has 3 color photographs and an essay. 95 lots in the complete sale. 11" high X 8" wide. This book will be securely packed and shipped with tracking.

Bella marca tipografica al frontespizio. Bel monogramma manoscritto al margine bianco del frontespizio. Prima edizione che raccoglie vari studi e riflessioni del noto chimico ed illuminista francese Jacques-Jean Bruhier D'Ablaincourt. D'Ablaincurt fu tra i primi a studiare e a dimostrare gli stadi di morte apparente. Fu studioso insigne e interessato alla dimostrazione della falsità di molti miti e leggende oltre che un curioso studioso. Si veda ad esempio il suo interesse per i sordo-muti. In quest'opera sono conservati alcuni suoi scritti dedicati a: Sirene, Tritoni, Nereidi e altri curiosi esseri marini; Sulla Baguette divinatoria; La pietra filosofale; Un interessantissimo capitolo dedicato ai sordo-muti e la maniera in di fargli apprendere le nozioni scientifiche e il modo di comunicare; Varie curiosità naturali; Sulla vanità dell'Astrologia, della fisionomia e della chiromanzia; Sui filtri amorosi e l'erotomania; sulla "Vegetations de l'or et des autres Metaux". Prima edizione che si presenta all'interno in buono stato di conservazione.

In 12° (13×7,6 cm); 353, (19) pp. Legatura ottocentesca in tutto cartoncino marmorizzato con titolo, autore e anno impressi in oro su tassello arancione al dorso. Tagli colorati in verde scuro. Fregio xilografico al frontespizio. Lieve difetto della carta alle pagine 139 e 163 esistente prima della stampa dell’opera. Piccolissimo ed ininfluente forellino di tarlo al margine basso bianco da pagina 241 alla fine del volume, ininfluente e nel complesso esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Seconda rara edizione, dopo la prima napoletana del 1617, di questo celebre trattato del grande medico, filosofo ed alchimista originario di San Marco dei Covati (Benevento), Giulio Cesare Baricelli (1574 – 1638). L’opera è un insieme di conoscenze, mediche, farmaceutiche, chimiche, alchemiche ed esoteriche con capitioli quali: Magiae seu incantationis vis;aegyptiorum opinio de elementis;Aegyptiorum arcana ad quartanam; Amoris originis controversiae; Capra maxime epilepsia tenatur; Calendula solis amica; Cicutam uterinum furorem domare; Daemonis astutia apud Indos; Germanorum mos circa coitum; Lupi aspectu homines obmutescunt; Maleficas artes in Septentr. Baircelli fu celebre “Medico, chimico e filosofo di fama italiana ed europea, Giulio Cesare Barricelli – – nacque a San Marco dei Cavoti nel 1574 (o 1575) e fu da molti, pure erroneamente, ritenuto originario di Benevento o di San Marco Argentano in Calabria. Erudito e studioso di poliedriche attitudini e capacità, studiò medicina e si interessò di filosofia, tanto che ancora giovanissimo fu autore di commenti alle opere di Platone, mentre nel 1614 pubblicò l’opera in quattro libri De hydronosa natura sive de sudore umani corporis, sulla natura e la terapia della sudorazione umana, nel 1617 scrisse l’Hortulus genialis, edito a Colonia e Ginevra ove raccolse antidoti e sudi sulle intossicazioni, e successivamente diede alle stampe il Thesaurus secretorum, opera in cui sono elencate le cure ed i rimedi per svariate malattie e problematiche quotidiane. Nel 1623 pubblicò poi un trattato sull’uso del siero del latte e del burro come medicamento, intitolato De lactis, seri, butyri facultatibus et usu, e nello stesso anno gli fu conferita la cittadinanza beneventana. Cultore di studi umanistici Barricelli scrisse anche alcuni epigrammi latini e morì in Benevento tra il 1638 ed il 1640?. Caillet, 727 edizione di Ginevra del medesimo anno. Title page printed in red and black folding map 128 photogravures on 109 plates 53 plans and elevations. In excellent condition with some rubbing to the bottom cloth. and light rubbing to the extremities. Rare. Osvald Siren was a Finnish-born art historian whose interests included the art of 18th century Sweden Renaissance Italy and China. In the area of Chinese art his major work was The Walls and Gates of Peking. Siren was an early member of the theosophist movement. In 1956 he was awarded the Charles Lang Freer Medal. In The Walls and Gates of Peking provides historical records of the walls and gates of Beijing and has 109 photos taken by Osvald Siren and 50 architectural drawings made by Chinese artists. "Superb historical description of the substantial stone monuments in the Peking area probably the most important work and the only photographic monograph on the subject from this period by one of the greatest authorities on Chinese art history and architecture" Western Travellers in China.
