One board detached but present and 2 are hanging by threads. Boards and spines are straight. Signatures solid. Antiquated bookplate on paste downs. Engraved frontispieces protected by tissue. London: Otridge Baldwin Rivington etc 1808. Full Calf Binding. Good. 8vo. 8 uniformly bound contemporary full calf bindings with an early re-backing that may still contain the original black spine labels with titles in gilt and devorative gilt borders. Spines with 5 raised bands and volume numbers in gilt. This 11th edition of Rollin's famous work on ancient history contains 13 folding maps 4 folding engravings and a frontispiece to volume one. A few of the maps are with open tears. Bindings with some wear but solid joints not cracked. As mentioned an early re-backing was done on the volumes but in a fitting and tasteful style. New York: Nafis and Cornish 1843. Full leather. Good . 6 x 9 in. Full contemporary brown calf with red and black spine labels. Marbled text edges. Vol 1 has a frontis and two folding plates the other vols have folding map frontis'. Condition is GOOD ; vol. 1 has a cracked front joint that is holding by the three main threads. One title label gone one damaged all a bit curling with spines a bit dry. Vol. 3 has scuffs to leather surface on the front. Vols 2-4 have tight bindings. There is moderate foxing to the text and some toning to margins of plates. Frontis and title pg more foxed. About 10% of the text has small pencil margin marks. Hist. RGR. Nafis and Cornish hardcover
