‎br. Il 15 febbraio 2012 nell'Oceano Indiano due pescatori vengono uccisi da una raffica di colpi sparata da una nave mercantile. Nello stesso giorno la Enrica Lexie, petroliera italiana con a bordo un Nucleo Militare di Protezione, ha respinto un tentativo di abbordaggio. Nel giro di poche ore la nave italiana inverte la rotta e viene fatta ormeggiare nel porto di Kochi, e qualche giorno dopo i due fucilieri di Marina, Massimiliano Latorre e Salvatore Girone, vengono arrestati. Comincia così il "caso marò", una vicenda che è diventata un limbo giudiziario fatto di inchieste approssimative, estenuanti dibattiti sulla giurisdizione e sull'immunità funzionale, rinvii e nulla di fatto. Toni Capuozzo ricostruisce gli eventi, a cominciare dalla legge che consentì l'impiego di personale militare a bordo di navi mercantili. Spiega il groviglio giuridico che ha intrappolato due Paesi amici, l'Italia e l'India, e il peso degli interessi economici e politici che hanno condizionato la vicenda, gli errori di tre governi e cinque ministri degli Esteri italiani. Ma soprattutto ricostruisce l'incidente del 15 febbraio facendo emergere tutte le contraddizioni e le lacune dell'inchiesta indiana e avanzando un'ipotesi di innocenza dei due militari, mai fatta propria dalla diplomazia italiana. Latorre e Girone hanno sempre detto: "Siamo innocenti". Ma nessuno finora gli ha creduto. Perché?‎
