Quest'opera è assai rara e fornisce numerose informazione su uno dei personaggi più importanti e discussi dell'ottocento che ebbe grande influenza nele vicende del Risorgimento Italiano. Il collezionismo napoleonico cominciò all'alba del 19 giugno 1815 sul campo di battaglia di Waterloo e da allora non si è più fermato, contagiando per due secoli le personalità più disparate, da Lord Byron fino a Stanley Kubrick, che per il suo film mancato, quello appunto su Napoleone, realizzò una monumentale ricerca. Del resto, basta scorrere i cataloghi delle case d'aste e delle mostre per cogliere la persistenza del flusso emotivo, oltre che del valore economico, veicolato dai reperti del political drama più avvincente del XIX secolo. Ma gli oggetti ossessionarono lo stesso Napoleone, il quale nel testamento elencò gli effetti personali che desiderava fossero consegnati soprattutto al figlio: oltre a oggetti prevedibili come armi, uniformi e libri, orologi e argenteria varia, anche una collezione di tabacchiere, e poi il lavabo della camera da letto, un bidè d'argento dorato, i letti e i materassi usati a Sant'Elena, sino alla biancheria intima.

3 pp.Autograph letter by Joseph Napoléon Bonaparte 1768-1844 the elder brother of Napoleon I of France who made him King of Naples and Sicily 1806-1808 and later King of Spain and the Indies as Joseph I of Spain 1808-1813. After the fall of Napoleon I Joseph styled himself "Comte de Survilliers" and fled to America in 1816. In the present letter Bonaparte thanks the politician Pierre François Réal 1757-1834 for his messages on the recent July Revolution 27-29 July 1830 called "Les Trois Glorieuses" the overthrow of the French Bourbon monarch Charles X at Paris. Bonaparte shows himself disappointed in the role of the Marquis de La Fayette 1757-1834 the famous French general and political leader who had played such a great role in the American Revolution.Some soiling and waterstains a large tear in the folding of the leaf some folds and some tears in the margins. Nel 1906 Louis Madelin pubblicava la prima storia completa e documentata della Roma di Napoleone, ovvero della dominazione francese che negli anni 1809-1814 interessò gli Stati sottratti al governo pontificio e annessi all'Impero napoleonico. A più di due secoli di distanza dall'opera di Madelin, questo volume intende riempire un vuoto storiografico durato a lungo e affrontare, con l'ausilio di nuove fonti e prospettive, il complesso periodo in cui Roma si ritrovò seconda capitale - dopo Parigi - dell'Impero fondato da Bonaparte. Ritratto a mezzo busto di Napoleone Bonaparte nelle vesti di Primo Console della Repubblica Francese. “Ce portrait, dont le dépôt est du 19 avril 1800” venne realizzato da Louis Albert Ghislain Bacler Dalbe, figura fondamentale e poliedrica del periodo napoleonico, che fu ingegnere-geografo, a lui si deve il capolavoro della Carte Générale Du Théâtre de la Guerre en Italie et dans les Alpes, ed allo stesso tempo pittore, disegnatore e litografo. Il disegno del Bacler Dalbe venne tradotto a stampa da Mercoli fils. Tre sono i Mercoli che dalla seconda metà del ‘700 fino ai primi del ‘800 lavorarono contemporaneamente a Milano: “Giacomo Mercori (nonno) nativo di Cremona e fecondissimo produttore di vignette, incise per i librai milanesi…Il figlio di questi, pure incisore, modificò in parte il nome paterno firmando Mercoli pater o Mercoli Père [a lui si deve una bellissima raffigurazione della battaglia di Lodi, che sembra essere il suo unico lavoro dell’età napoleonica] Un terzo, Mercoli Gaetano, figlio del precedente, firmò Mercoli nepos quand’era vivo il nonno, ed alla morte di questi firmò Mercoli filius per distinguere i propri lavori da quelli del padre.”. ill., br. Napoleone Bonaparte conquista gran parte d'Italia nel 1796 e nuovamente nel 1800. La prima campagna solleva l'entusiasmo delle popolazioni che si uniscono in numerose repubbliche giacobine. La seconda conduce alla creazione della repubblica e successivamente del regno d'Italia. Entrambe le guerre sono fondamentali antecedenti dell'Unità d'Italia del 1861. L'autore illustra attentati, omicidi, esecuzioni capitali, armi e tecniche di combattimento di tutta l'epopea di Napoleone, di cui è delineato il ritratto psicologico, dall'esordio sulla scena della Storia alla relegazione all'isola d'Elba, alla disfatta definitiva a Waterloo e alla prigionia a Sant'Elena. Infine descrive il peggioramento delle condizioni generali dell'esiliato provocato dalle malattie e dalle pessime condizioni di vita nell'isola, prende in esame l'ipotesi di un avvelenamento da arsenico, ma soprattutto mette in luce con fermezza l'intervento terminale dei medici che ne provocarono la fine il 5 maggio 1821.
