‎Très curieux recueil d'amateur sur la fameuse affaire de la Conspiration de Canuel, sanglant montage du parti ultra pour faire croire à un danger de révolte libérale imminent : l'insurrection des canuts de 1817 avait été considérée comme une vaste manifestation à l'instigation du parti bonapartiste dirigée contre la Couronne. Elle fut réprimée avec un zèle féroce par le gouverneur militaire Canuel, dont la brutalité fut dénoncée alors par le colonel Fabvier.Ce dernier, aide de camp du maréchal Marmont, duc de Raguse, avait été chargé par le gouvernement de faire la lumière sur le complot réel ou supposé. Avec Charrier de Sainneville, lieutenant de police de Lyon, il dénonça à l'opinion publique la conduite tenue par le genéral dans ces circonstances. Canuel leur intenta un procès et, s'il le gagna devant les tribunaux, il le perdit entièrement devant l'opinion publique. La plupart des pièces réunies ici émanent de légitimistes ultra qui expriment évidemment une dénégation obstinée ; elles sont généralement au format in-8 (seules celles du troisième volume se présentent au format in-4), mais les reliures sont toutes in-4, ce qui a pour conséquence une reliure au format identique et donc en en retrait des textes pour les deux premiers volumes.[Premier volume] I. Il en fut l'un des organisateurs et le missionnaire, avec les titres de directeur du personnel et chef de la police, parcourant dans ce but les ateliers et les campagnes pour y effectuer de la propagande républicaine. Arrêté en décembre 1833, il fut trois fois condamné en 1834 et en 1835, et, une dernière fois, à la déportation, lors du procès des accusés d'avril. Le présent procès concerne le tract publié le 4 août 1833 et intitulé Lettre au rédacteur du National, imprimé chez Pagnerre.‎
