‎La Renaissance catholique qui suivit le concile de Trente est justiciable de deux lectures historiques concomitantes. Elle fut durcissement des structures, enrégimentement des masses par un clergé mieux tenu en main, puissante entreprise de catéchèse, et cela grâce à l'appui de l'Etat. Mais elle fut aussi sainteté et piété. Ces deux aspects, qui peuvent paraître contradictoires l'un avec l'autre, cohabitèrent en réalité dans le vécu quotidien. Et si une christianisation quantitativement importante résulta de l'action méthodique de l'Eglise romaine, c'est parce que cette action fut qualitativement doublée, appuyée, vivifiée de l'intérieur par des trésors de dévouement, d'héroïsme, de charité, de spiritualité, d'imagination créatrice. Se pose toutefois la question des limites de la christianisation ainsi réalisée entre l'arrivée de Luther sur la scène historique et l'époque de la mort de Voltaire. À peine remis de la secousse protestante, le catholicisme dut affronter le choc des « Lumières ». — "« L'Histoire et ses problèmes », tel est, on le sait, le sous-titre de la collection « Nouvelle Clio » dans laquelle paraît le dernier livre de Jean Delumeau, Le catholicisme entre Luther et Voltaire. Les problèmes, Jean Delumeau ne les esquive pas, loin de là. Non content d'évoquer ceux déjà connus, comme la querelle des rites ou le jansénisme, en donnant à leur propos le dernier état des recherches, il en pose lui-même un de taille, véritable « thèse », selon sa propre expression, qui n'aboutit à rien moins qu'à remettre en question un double schéma classique et encore communément admis : celui de la restauration catholique réparant au XVIIe siècle, sous la pression indirecte de la réforme protestante, les faiblesse les plus criantes de l'Église romaine, et celui qui place au XVIIIe siècle le début de la déchristianisation contemporaine sous le double effet d'une nouvelle crise dans l'Église et des attaques des philosophes contre la religion. Rechristianisation au XVIIe siècle ? Déchristianisation au XVIIIe ? Jean Delumeau attaque de front ce double mythe. (...) On saura gré à l'auteur de nous avoir proposé ce qu'il appelle lui-même, sans aucune exagération, « une lecture neuve de toute l'histoire moderne de l'Occident ». Identifiant péché et tentation, il fut désormais convaincu que l'homme reste toute sa vie indigne du salut. Le péché originel a été trop profond et trop grave. Mais Dieu se refuse à regarder les fautes d'un pécheur qui continue d'espérer dans son sauveur. C'est la doctrine de la « justification par la foi ». Le présent ouvrage la replace dans son contexte historique et en suit la diffusion dans la partie de la chrétienté devenue protestante. Pour la première fois dans l'histoire une "hérésie" chrétienne tenait en échec l'autorité romaine.‎

Edition originale de cette réfutation des 'Pensées philosophiques' de Diderot dans laquelle l'auteur dispose le texte intégral de Diderot et sa propre réfutation en regard, page à page. Le faux-titre: "Pensées philosophiques et pensées chrétiennes, mises en parallèle ou en opposition" est suivi de deux pages de titre: celle des 'Pensées philosophiques', à l'adresse et à la date de l'édition originale (« La Haye, aux dépens de la Compagnie, 1746 »), face à celle des Pensées chrétiennes. Cette réfutation est l'oeuvre du pasteur lausannois Georges P.G. Polier de Bottens (1675-1759). Issu d'une famille renommée de Lausanne, il était docteur en théologie morale et devint professeur et recteur de l'Académie de sa ville. Adversaire résolu des Lumières, il avait pourtant pour neveu Antoine Noé Polier de Bottens, ami et correspondant de Voltaire et auteur de plusieurs articles pour l’Encyclopédie. (Adams, PD16, II, p.286. Tchemerzine-Scheler, II, p. 918-919). Un dernier feuillet de catalogue annoncé par une réclame (« CA ») n'est pas présent. Ce catalogue manque également à l'exemplaire de la BnF, à celui décrit par Tchemerzine, ainsi qu'à l'ensemble des exemplaires recensés par WorldCat. Il n'a probablement jamais été inséré. Bon exemplaire, très frais, bien relié à l'époque.‎

The collection provides an invaluable resource, reflecting the changes in society after the Second Constitutional Revolution in New Ottoman State. The magazine was published weekly in 130 numbers between 21 August 1324 (3 September 1908) and 16 June 1327 (29 June 1911), starting immediately after the Second Ottoman Constitutional Revolution. The magazine was a mixture of satire and a saloon magazine, focusing on politics, social life, and revolution. The only continuously running part of the magazine was Haftalik Dedikodu (Weekly Gossip). The founders of the magazine were Salah (Selah) Cimcoz (1875-1947), a Turkish politician, lawyer, and owner of Kalem Newspaper, and Celal Esat Arseven (1876-1971) a Turkish painter, writer, and parliamentarian. Infolge der Globalisierung und der Wiedervereinigung wurden die Grenzen der Problemlosungskompetenz der Parteien vor allem an der andauernden strukturellen Arbeitslosigkeit sichtbar.
