‎Einband gering berieben. - Mit Namensliste der Film-Emigranten. - Zahlreiche Filmkünstler hat das Kommunale Kino in Frankfurt in den vergangenen Jahren in Retrospektiven vorgestellt, deren Werke allesamt die Schnittstelle einer Emigration aus Nazideutschland aufweisen: Fritz Lang, Max Ophüls, Billy Wilder, Marlene Dietrich, Lilian Harvey, Emeric Pressburger etc. Stellvertretend können diese Regisseure und Schauspieler stehen für den Exodus fast der gesamten ersten Garnitur und von einem großen Teil der ganzen Branche von Filmkünstlern, Filmtechnikern, Produzenten etc. nach 1933. Das historische Faktum der rassischen und politischen Verfolgung sowie Exilierung in diesem Ausmaß wird mithin deutlich anhand von Filmen, an denen deutschsprachige Emigranten mitgewirkt haben. Die Ausstellung ?Von Babelsberg nach Hollywood - Filmemigranten aus Nazideutschland" hat diesen Exodus zum Thema. Dieser Abschnitt der Filmgeschichte nimmt seinen Ausgang mit Goebbels' Rede im Hotel Kaiserhof in Berlin am 28. März 1933, womit auch die Ausstellung anfängt, die deutschsprachige Filmemigration zu dokumentieren. In keiner anderen Branche des Kulturbetriebes, von der Literatur einmal abgesehen, gab es einen solchen Aderlaß. Damit ist nicht nur eines von diversen Kapiteln der Filmgeschichte zur Darstellung gebracht. Vielmehr setzt sich das Filmmuseum auseinander mit einem Aspekt des gravierendsten Einschnitts, einer folgenreichen Katastrophe in der Geschichte des deutschsprachigen Films: Mit den Folgen für die Opfer aus der Filmbranche, die ihr Land verlassen, ihren Arbeitsplatz aufgeben, Kultur und Sprache wechseln mußten. Stationen des Exils waren Länder aller Kontinente: Für einige Jahre noch Wien, Prag, Paris, dann London, aber auch Palästina, Shanghai, Mexico etc. An exponiertester Stelle im Spektrum der Zufluchtsorte steht freilich Hollywood, das in der Ausstellung ein entsprechendes Gewicht erhält. Hollywoods weltgrößte Filmindustrie bildete den Focus der deutschsprachigen Filmemigration. Die Ausstellung dokumentiert sowohl die vergleichsweise erfolgreiche Beteiligung an den Anti-Nazi-Filmen zwischen 1939-1945 sowie den Mißerfolg und das Scheitern von zahlreichen Emigranten in Hollywood. Flucht, Fluchthilfe, Ausreise, Einreise, Arbeitsverbote, Arbeitssuche, Brotberufe etc. werden in Fotos, Dokumenten und Briefen vorgestellt. Das Exil ist mit dem Jahr 1945 nicht beendet, nicht da zahlreiche emigrierte Filmschaffende z.B. in Hollywood erfolgreich Fuß fassen konnten oder US-amerikanische Staatsbürger wurden, sondern weil das Exil unabänderlich eine Lebensperspektive festlegte. Für die zurückkehrenden Filmschaffenden gab es kein Anknüpfen an die Zeit vor ihrer Emigration, noch gab es eine ?Stunde Null" im Film nach 1945. ISBN 3887990102‎

Working under dangerous conditions and running afoul of the law quickly led London to his Socialist opinions. While supporting his widowed mother and attending Berkeley, he began writing short stories, at first to no end. Around the turn of the century, London's luck turned, and he became on of the highest paid writers of his time. He wrote more than fifty full-length works, and countless short stories and articles, some of which have been translated into dozens of languages. He died at the age of forty.
