Bruxelles - J Rozez 1871 Book. Good. Hardcover. Signed by Authors. The intriguing memoirs of Italian adventurer and author Giacomo Girolamo Casanova. No collation available though appears complete in six volumes. In originalFrench. Casanova's autobiography is considered one of the most authentic sources of the customs and norms of European social life during the 18th Century. He signed his works as Jacques Casanova De Seingalt upon his exile from Veniceand when he began writing in French. His fame lies mostly in his complicated and elaborateaffairs with women and his name hasbecome synonymous with'womanizer'. He associated with many distinguished figures such as royalty popescardinals as well as Voltaire Goethe and Mozart. Casanova wrote his memoirs during the last years of his lifeasa result of his isolation andboredomdue tohis exile. He wrote that hismemoirs were'the only remedy'to keeping him sane. Afteryears of work Casanovaalmost did not publish his memoir as hefeared it would make him enemies from writing the truth about his affairs. He then chose to proceed by writing initials instead of actual names. The decision to write the memoirs in Frenchrather than his native tongue of Italian was due to the fact French wasmore widely spoken at that time. Condition: In half calf bindings.
