‎Frank Anne; Introduction by Eleanor Roosevelt; Translated from the Dutch by B. M. Mooyaart Doubleday‎

‎Anne Frank The Diary of a Young Girl‎

‎Garden City New York: Doubleday & Company Inc. 1952. Very Good condition in a Near Very Good dust jacket. PHOTOS available upon request. The jacket is price clipped with two closed tears reinforced with clear tape on the blank side. The spine of the jacket is bright with none of the usual fading. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. The year of publication "1952" is printed on both the title and copyright pages. This copy does NOT have the "First Edition" statement on its copyright page. The rear panel of the Dust Jacket has the code "125" at the lower left bottom corner. Based on examination of several 1952 copies we believe the code "125" appears only on later printing jackets. None-the-less this is an attractive and desirable copy from one of the earliest printings in English. Based on extensive research we have concluded that the earliest copies of the 1952 U.S. printings of this book were issued with brown-tinted photographic endpapers as here; with green-tinted photographic endpapers coming later; and plain white endpapers later still. Introduction by Eleanor Roosevelt. Translated from the Dutch by B. M. Mooyaart-Doubleday. Illustrated with 3 diagrams floor plans of the annex and brown-tinted endpaper photos. Anne Frank's diary encompasses the period from June 1942 to July 1944 during which time the Frank family was hidden by friends in a Dutch warehouse. This book was first published in 1947 in Dutch as HET ACHTERHUIS. See Szonyi 51 and 184: "The famous account of a German born Dutch Jewish girl's ordeal in hiding THE DIARY captures both the physical claustrophobia of hiding and a sensitive adolescent's hopes for the future." Laska 1500. Edelheit 3696. Snyder 149: Anne Frank 1929-45 was a German-Jewish girl who with her family hid from the Gestapo in Amsterdam for two years and died in Belsen concentration camp. An immediate sensation her diary was translated eventually into thirty-two languages and later became a successful stage play and motion picture." A Snyder asterisk item meaning one he regards as "outstanding." Bound in the original black cloth stamped in shiny silver on the spine. Complete with dust jacket. 5.25" wide by 7.5" tall. 1952 edition early printing. Hardcover. Very Good condition/Near Very Good dust jacket. Illus. by Suess Ursula jacket design. 285pp. Great Packaging Fast Shipping. Doubleday & Company, Inc. Hardcover‎

‎Frank Anne; Introduction by Eleanor Roosevelt; Translated from the Dutch by B. M. Mooyaart Doubleday‎

‎Anne Frank The Diary of a Young Girl‎

‎Garden City New York: Doubleday & Company Inc 1952. "First Edition" is so stated on the copyright page. Very Good condition in a Good dust jacket. SEE PHOTOS. The jacket is protected by a removable Brodart sleeve removed for photos. NOT price-clipped $3.00. The spine of the jacket is still distinctly red and quite bright only a little faded -- much less than many other copies which are very faded or even no longer red at all but sun-bleached to white. If you care about condition be sure to see a photo of the jacket's spine when considering other copies. The jacket has a few small edge chips and a crease to the corner of its rear turn-in flap. SEE PHOTOS. Top edge tinted red. Square and unmarked. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. This is the first printing of the first American Edition and the first to be translated into English. The rear panel of the dust jacket does NOT have a numeric code explained below. Endpapers are illustrated with photographs tinted BROWN explained below. This is a desirable copy of a book tough-to-find in First Edition. Note: We have examined several other copies of this title also dated 1952 that had green-tinted endpaper photos or plain white endpapers. However all of them lacked the "First Edition" statement on the copyright page. Unlike this first edition many of these later printings had the code "125" on the rear panel of the dust jacket at the lower left bottom corner. First issue jacket with $3.00 price at top right just below the front inner flap code "A.F.:T.D.O.A.Y.G." SEE PHOTOS.

‎Death on the Black Sea the Untold Story of the Struma and World War II's Holocaust At Sea‎

‎New York: Ecco Publications. New. 2004. First Softcover Edition. Softcover. On the morning of February 24 1942 on the Black Sea near Istanbul an explosion ripped through a decrepit former cattle barge filled with Jewish refugees. One man clung fiercely to a piece of deck fighting to survive. Nearly eight hundred others - among them more than 100 children - perished. In this book its passengers and the events that led to its destruction are investigated and fully revealed in two vivid parallel accounts set six decades apart. One chronicles the international diplomatic maneuvers and callousness that resulted in the largest maritime loss of civilian life during World War II. The other recounts a recent attempt to locate the Struma at the bottom of the Black Sea an effort initiated and pursued by the grandson of two of the victims. A vivid recollection of a grim exodus aboard a doomed ship Death on the Black Sea illuminates a forgotten episode of World War II and pays tribute to the heroes past and present who keep its memory alive. 353 pages including bibliography sources and a list of passengers who perished on the Struma. 5 1/4" x 8 .
