‎Thomas Powell; Henry VIII‎

‎Anno Sexto Henrici Octavi; The kynge our soveraigne lorder Henrie the eight after the conquest by the grace of God kyng of England.; English statutes; Henry VIII - The kynge our soueraigne lorde Henrie the eight after the conquest by the grace of God kyng of England and of Fraunce and lorde of Jrelande at his parliament holden at Westminster the. v. day of Februarie in the. vi. yere of his most noble reigne after the prorogacion to the honour of god and holy church and for the common weale and profit of this his realme by the assent of the lordes spiritual and temporall and the commons in this present parliament assembled and by auctoritie of the same hath do to be ordeined made and enacted certaine statutes and ordinaunces in maner and fourme folowyng‎

‎London: Thomas Powell. First printing. Hardcover. Good. Circa 1563. Quarto bound in vertically striped modern boards 24 leaves printed on both sides blackletter font with large woodcut initials. Typical age-toning to the pages given its age light creasing or wear to some pages. Apparently part of an edition of the statutes of Henry VIII years 3-7; it collates 2 leaves F-H6 If. Contains numberous interesting Acts such as those regulating 'crosbowes and handgonnes'; archers and bowstaves; woolen cloths; etc. No Powell edition of these years is recorded in Proctor 'Statutes' Beale or STC. The woodcut title border McKerrow and Ferguson 26 is an English version of the one of Tory's 'Champ Fleury' 1529. This book was purchased for $45 in 1970 out of an H. P. Kraus catalog and the purchaser retained the original Kraus catalog the invoice for purchase etc. and those papers are included here. In fact the Kraus catalog 'List No. 200' uses as its cover illustration the border on the title page of the book in hand. OCLC cites a similar copy only one in the University of Michigan Law Library that is 33 leaves and collates as E5-E6 F-G6 H3. As ours begins with a title page catchwords align and ends with 'God sayve the kynge' it appears complete and possibly the copy housed by Michigan is another portion of the statutes. Slight basement mustiness. Thomas Powell hardcover‎
