Con questo studio che si aggiunge alla collana "Carità e Assistenza a Venezia", Giuseppe Ellero delinea la storia e le trasformazioni dell'amministrazione pubblica della beneficenza elemosiniera e degli istituti di ricovero e di educazione dalla caduta della Repubblica di Venezia ai nostri giorni, attraverso i documenti che per lunghi anni ha riordinato e studiato come archivista dell'IRE. Da quei documenti, redatti prima dall'aristocrazia e poi dalla borghesia veneziana, l'evoluzione della dignità della persona appare lenta e tarda e solo il mito del glorioso passato sembra essere lo sprone a tenere il passo con le riforme sociali durante il difficile trapasso verso l'epoca moderna. She sang Giannetta to Caruso's Nemorino and Fyodor to Chaliapin's Boris before turning to lighter music in 1924 when she created the title role in Hammerstein and Friml's Rose Marie and then began acting in plays and films. La storia delle istituzioni è qui trattata con metodologia diversa rispetto alla storia del diritto: l'autore si propone di descrivere l'evoluzione delle regole e delle strutture giuridiche in rapporto al contesto economico e sociale e intende considerare i fenomeni giuridici più nella loro essenza e realtà profonda che nelle loro manifestazioni tecniche. Studiare l'evoluzione del diritto in rapporto alla vita economica e sociale esclude il dettaglio della tecnica giuridica in senso stretto a meno che tale dettaglio non sia significativo di una tendenza sociale e politica. Il diritto quindi non può essere considerato, in una storia delle istituzioni, come una realtà a sé: lo studio dell'organizzazione teorica delle istituzioni non basta a darcene la realtà politica o giuridica ma mette solo a disposizione dei meccanismi o dei quadri che la vita modifica.
