La guerra per l'indipendenza. Francesco II e le Due Sicilie nel 1860
br. La guerra del 1860 determinò il successo della rivoluzione nazionale italiana. Nel Regno delle Due Sicilie il conflitto si espresse attraverso una rivoluzione regionale che dopo un mese di guerriglia locale intermittente si trasformò in guerra nazionale riducendo le opzioni in campo a un dualismo oppositivo non ricomponibile. Da un lato i rivoluzionari italiani che, sotto il tricolore e lo scettro di Vittorio Emanuele II, prolungavano la stagione delle guerre d'indipendenza contro lo straniero usurpatore. Dall'altro i legittimisti duosiciliani, che fedeli al giglio della monarchia borbonica e a Francesco II combattevano, contro i ribelli interni e gli invasori, la guerra per l'indipendenza. Attraverso una corposa e inedita documentazione d'archivio, questo libro si propone di considerare tale momento centrale dell'epopea risorgimentale nella prospettiva del principale interprete della controrivoluzione: la monarchia di Francesco II.

brossura Uno degli scopi centrali di questo lavoro è comprendere adeguatamente il concetto di simpatia per risolvere l'apparente tensione tra descrizione e prescrizione. La simpatia viene definita come uno strumento di condivisione che permette il giudizio e la direzione del comportamento morale. L'empatia funge da condizione di possibilità della simpatia, ma si colloca su un piano descrittivo puramente amorale. Distinguere questi due concetti è fondamentale per comprendere se e in che misura sia lecito pensare alla possibilità di un passaggio dalla descrizione alla normazione. Il processo simpatetico si caratterizza come strumento e metodo utile a determinare l'agire e fissare le condizioni per un giudizio a posteriori dell'azione, sia propria sia altrui (Smith 1759). Non ne deriva una lista di doveri, ma un criterio per giudicare e agire moralmente. È mediante tale criterio che si può comprendere il passaggio dalla descrizione di un'abilità "naturale" al comportamento di un soggetto morale.

Ognuno era un sistema complesso di governo del territorio, di disciplina degli interessi economici e dei rapporti sociali, di educazione; e anche di usanze e di culture. Perlopiù si trattava di sistemi deboli, che non ressero l'urto della guerra del 1859-1860, quando con la forza delle armi, delle passioni ideali e della fortuna gran parte della penisola venne unificata. Tradizioni e istituzioni di piccoli Paesi che non avevano che pochi contatti tra loro vennero tumultuosamente miscelati in un nuovo grande Stato. Il volume presenta un'analisi della società e delle istituzioni di quelle piccole patrie, per svelarne le illusioni, i successi e i misfatti.

Le sette conversazioni fra i due autori si realizzarono durante "sette sabato mattina" nell'anno 1988 e furono pubblicate in Argentina alcuni anni dopo, nel 1992. Sorrentino ebbe occasione di intervistare anche Jorge Luis Borges nel 1974 e le sette conversazioni con Borges furono tradotte in italiano nel 1999. Queste conversazioni con Bioy Casares non solo fanno scorgere la straordinaria personalità dell'autore argentino ma permettono anche di rivivere un'Argentina ed una Buenos Aires ormai scomparse, come quando Bioy parla del Martín Fierrogauchos, dei testi dei tanghi "primitivi" e di quelli "canaglieschi" che non piacevano a Borges, delle latterie e delle scuderie sul viale Quintana. Ricordi e osservazioni che nelle sue parole assumono un tono non tanto nostalgico, quanto sociale, aneddotico, umoristico. Il libro di Sorrentino offre al lettore una visione privilegiata e quasi intima del pensiero di questo grande scrittore argentino del XX secolo.
