br. In questo lavoro si vuol giustificare la tesi secondo cui lo storicismo assoluto di Croce e gli indirizzi speculativi di Calogero, Bobbio, de Ruggiero, Calamandrei e Capitini condizionano le rispettive scelte etico-politiche. Il quadro (circolare) dello spiritualismo crociano influenza, infatti, la direzione idealistica del suo liberalismo politico e trascura in parte il problema sociale, relegandolo nell'alveare dello «pseudoconcetto»; mentre la variegata filosofia degli azionisti, che si sviluppa al confine ermeneutico tra lo storicismo puro (Tutto) e il pensiero nichilista (Nulla), propone di socializzare il liberalismo e di liberalizzare il socialismo interpretando la persona - e non l'«opera» o la storia - come centro assoluto di valori.

TYPED LETTER SIGNED by British author/humorist STEPHEN POTTER to the SATURDAY EVENING POST together with a copy of the REJECTION LETTER.
London: October 11th 1966. 1966. Very good. - 90 words typed on a sheet of his cream personal letterhead 9 inches high by 7 inches wide with his address printed within a decorative green frame at the top. Signed and with an autograph note in red ink: "But the Just Back piece is the one I have just invented / sincerely / Stephen Potter". There is some light pencil scribbling in the left margin of the letter. The top left corned is lightly creased with pinholes where a staple has been removed. There is also a light crease across the bottom corner. Folded twice for mailing. With a carbon copy on yellow paper of the magazine's rejection letter. Very good. <p>Potter writes to Sandford Brown of the Saturday Evening Post sending him two pieces not here present: "Gattling-Penn and Cogg-Willoughby are original lifemanship characters and I am faithful to them. I have enclosed also.an acount of something which happened to me in 1940-1.Manchester early '41 just after the Blitz. Everybody having one or two shots extra. My programme was about Tom Moore. Singing the songs was John McCormack. Playing his accompaniment was Gerald Moore.". Brown replies that the Cogg-Willoughby character is "rather frightfully British" and the Manchester anecdote is too long and not really funny enough.<p>Stephen Potter was a British author best known for his mocking self-help books which were adapted for film and television. He started his working life as an academic was later employed as a writer and producer by the BBC and became a freelance writer after World War II. (London): October 11th, 1966. unknown

Di più: le sue opere sono innervate nel tessuto urbano; chi vive la nostra città si infrange quotidianamente, anche senza riconoscerla, sulla preziosa eredità del pittore, toscano ma in qualche modo perugino d'adozione. Le sue sculture nella centralissima Piazza Italia, in fronte alla Prefettura, le opera nel foyer del teatro Morlacchi, la via a lui intitolata a ridosso delle mura etrusche ci parlano di un legame forte e profondo, amorevole e filiale. Le opere scelte per questa esposizione testimoniano la quotidianità di Checchi fatta di volti, visioni familiari e scorci privati che vengono raffigurati con un'innata destrezza pittorica che ne contraddistingue la lunghissima carriera. Il percorso espositivo che si articola nella splendida cornice del Museo civico di Palazzo della Penna è suddiviso per temi, così da permettere al visitatore di comprendere la vivace e profonda continuità con la quale l'artista ha dato forma a questa sua necessità espressiva, attraversando il Novecento e restituendocene un'immagine inedita e personale.

Dopo Wittgenstein, San Tommaso
br. Passare da Wittgenstein per arrivare a san Tommaso non è un percorso a ritroso, filosoficamente parlando. Lo sostengono importanti pensatori britannici della tradizione post-analitica come Peter Geach, Elizabeth Anscombe e Anthony Kenny, i quali propongono una lettura molto originale del Dottor Angelico e dell'autore delle Ricerche filosofiche. Roger Pouivet ricostruisce in "Dopo Wittgenstein, san Tommaso" i percorsi di una nuova e provocatoria corrente filosofica che ha preso il nome di "tomismo analitico" ed è una delle più coraggiose frontiere filosofiche di oggi.

br. Carlo Leoni, nobile letterato e mecenate padovano vissuto nel XIX secolo, è il ladro del cranio di Francesco Petrarca, la cui salma è custodita nella tomba del poeta ad Arquà Petrarca sui Colli Euganei. La sottrazione del teschio, sostituito con quello di una donna vissuta un secolo prima del poeta, è stata documentata da un anatomopatologo dell'Università di Padova nel 2004 in occasione della riapertura della celebre tomba a fini scientifici. Lo storico Claudio Povolo sedici anni dopo ricostruisce le vicende di questo giallo con documentata precisione.

Signed "Hortense Powdermaker " with her name and "Chairman Department of Anthropology-Sociology" typed below the signature. There is light creasing to the top & bottom edges of the letter with a paperclip mark to the top edge. The recipient has heavily marked the letter with a phone number and date & with brackets around the body of the letter and Powdermaker's signature. Folded 3 times for mailing. Good. <p>Powdermaker writes that she will be be happy to speak at Rugg's All-College Luncheon Forum. "Would you like me to talk about the 'Relationship of Hollywood to American Life' or 'The Relationship of Movies to American Life'" or something else"</p><p>Hortense Powdermaker 1900-1970 was an American anthropologist best known for her ethnographic studies of African Americans in Indianola Mississippi and of Hollywood. After studying at Goucher College and working as a labor organizer for the Amalgamated Clothing Workers she left the United States to study at the London School of Economics. While at LSE she worked under and was influenced by several well-known anthropologists including Bronislaw Malinowski who persuaded her to pursue doctoral studies. She completed her Ph.D. on "Leadership in Primitive Society" in 1928. Returning to the United States she was given an appointment at the new Yale Institute of Public Relations. The institute's director Edward Sapir encouraged her to apply ethnographic field methods to the study of communities in her own society. As a result she conducted anthropological field work in an Indianola African American community recording this work in "After Freedom: A Cultural Study in the Deep South" 1939. Her other best known book "Hollywood the Dream Factory" 1950 was written while she was working at Queens College where she founded the departments of Anthropology and Sociology during a career spanning three decades.</p><p>One of the best-known educators during the Progressive era of education Harold Rugg 1886-1960 was a professor of education at Teachers College of Columbia University. A Civil Engineer he had become interested in how students learn and pursued a doctorate in education.
