‎br. Nell'estate del 1936 il giornalista statunitense Edgar Snow, da qualche anno inviato speciale nella Cina di Chiang Kai-shek, intraprese un viaggio che aveva già allora il sapore dell'epopea. Snow fu il primo occidentale a varcare il confine dei territori controllati dai rivoluzionari di Mao Zedong, incontrandoli da vicino, accolto come un amico nelle loro case-grotta dello Shaanxi settentrionale. Da quei nove formidabili mesi nacque un reportage definito all'epoca "lo scoop del secolo" e destinato a diventare celebre. In "Stella rossa sulla Cina" parlano dirigenti comunisti e combattenti volontari, contadini beneficiati dalla ridistribuzione delle terre e giovani donne lavoratrici, che rivendicano il diritto all'autogoverno contro l'occupazione giapponese, lottando con uno spirito di comunità e una caparbietà travolgenti.
