‎Deux mille navires. Jamais on n avait vu autant de bâtiments réunis en Méditerranée. Ils ne devaient pourtant pas être nombreux, ceux qui, en cette aube du 15 août 1944, purent découvrir, s'arrachant à la brume marine, l'immense armada déployée pour chasser l'occupant allemand de la terre provençale. Car les habitants du littoral varois étaient partis, fuyant les bombardements alliés ou les tirs des batteries allemandes. Ils ne virent donc pas l'impitoyable ouragan de feu qui s abattit sur les 70 kilomètres de plages du débarquement, ni la marée humaine, 100.000 soldats en une seule journée, qui prit pied sur le sol français. Moins de deux semaines plus tard, la quasi-totalité de la Provence était libérée et les Alliés, parmi lesquels une majorité de Français, se trouvaient aux portes de Lyon. C'est bien une extraordinaire épopée pour la liberté que ce livre propose de nous faire revivre, soixante-dix années plus tard. Voir le sommaire sur photos jointes.‎
