Proceedings of People's Enquiry Into CFMETR at Nanoose Bay, B.C.
209 pages including black and white photos of selected participants. The concept of the People's Enquiry was to gather information on the implications of CFMETR by inviting a number of experts in various fields to give papers on selected topics. The idea of having an open meeting was to provide the public with the answers which were denied them when the government turned down requests to hold a public meeting. Major-General Leonard Johnson (retired), one of the three distinguished panelists, said of the Enquiry, it was "an attempt to obtain facts, to inform the public, and to influence the activities that bear on the security of the people of Canada... Defence agreements can lead with changes in strategy and technology to unforseen and unintended consequences inimical to the security of Canadians. Because they are made and implemented in secret, beyond public security, such agreements are not subject to democratic control by an informed electorate, as all agreements affecting the lives of people should be. Stiff green covers front cover features stylized Dutch Boy image three sheets of text Simplified Color Mixing Exterior Painting Formulas Dutch Boy System for Painting Interior Plaster and 30 paint samples. Back side of paint samples offer formulas for mixing paint to get the indicated colors. About 2-1/4" x 4" 6 cm x 10 cm when closed. Not dated.; Lead paint is toxic to humans and animals and now banned for use. The National Lead Company was one of the 12 original stocks in the DJIA. In 1971 they changed their name to NL Industries. They sold the Dutch Boy brand in 1980 to Sherwin-Williams and it continues to sell reformulated paint. See Wikipedia on NL Industries for more. At time of cataloguing-- One example in the trade in the 14 cm size with fewer samples and the 1915 date. OCLC shows seven holdings for this item in three entries. Most offer a definitive date of 1915. Additional entries estimate dates between 1907 and 1920. Notably one year after the book was published in 1914 the United States had its first confirmed childhood death from lead poisoning after a child had repeatedly bitten the railings of his crib that was painted with lead paint. It was rare to find any popular magazine in the first half of the twentieth century that did not have at least one ad for Dutch Boy Paint. Many people do not know that the Dutch Boy had his own magazine but he did indeed . And an interesting little periodical it was.
