Dankt Josef Wesely für ihm übersandte Geburtstagswünsche. - Ernst Lothar, seit 1917 österreichischen Staatsdienst tätig, arbeitete nach seiner vorzeitigen Pensionierung 1924 als Theater- und Literaturkritiker für die ‘Neue Freie Presse’ und als Gastregisseur am Wiener Burgtheater. 1935 wurde er Direktor und Nachfolger Max Reinhardts am Theater in der Josefstadt. Nach dem "Anschluß" Österreichs in die USA emigriert, gründete er in New York das "Austrian Theater" und war als Dozent für vergleichende Literaturgeschichte und Theaterwissenschaft am Colorado College tätig. 1946 kehrte Lothar, der mit der Schauspielerin Adrienne Gessner verheiratet war, als amerikanischer Kulturbeauftragter für Österreich nach Wien zurück, widmete sich dem Wiederaufbau des österreichischen Theaters und nahm seine Regietätigkeit (u. a. am Burgtheater und bei den Salzburger Festspielen) wieder auf. In der Verfilmung seines erfolgreichen Romans ‘Der Engel mit der Posaune’ war neben Paula Wessely, Helene Thimig, Hedwig Bleibtreu und Maria Schell Oskar Werner in seiner ersten bedeutenden Filmrolle zu sehen. Nach dem "Anschluß" Österreichs in die USA emigriert, gründete er in New York das "Austrian Theater" und war als Dozent für vergleichende Literaturgeschichte und Theaterwissenschaft am Colorado College tätig. 1946 kehrte Lothar, der mit der Schauspielerin Adrienne Gessner verheiratet war, als amerikanischer Kulturbeauftragter für Österreich nach Wien zurück, widmete sich dem Wiederaufbau des österreichischen Theaters und nahm seine Regietätigkeit (u. a. am Burgtheater und bei den Salzburger Festspielen) wieder auf. In der Verfilmung seines erfolgreichen Romans ‘Der Engel mit der Posaune’ war neben Paula Wessely, Helene Thimig, Hedwig Bleibtreu und Maria Schell Oskar Werner in seiner ersten bedeutenden Filmrolle zu sehen. - Der Br. v. 30.
