‎George BARBIER (Nantes 1882-1932), peintre et illustrateur, a beaucoup travaillé pour la mode et le théâtre (Ballets Russes, "Casanova", ), composant des dessins de costumes et des décors. L'artiste a également illustré de nombreux ouvrages "Les Chansons de Bilitis", "Aphrodite", "Personnages de Comédie", "Tamar Karsavina", "Nijinsky", "Poèmes en prose", "Falbalas et Fanfreluches", "Le Bonheur du jour", ... ; il a collaboré à de nombreuses revues satiriques ou de mode : "Le Rire", "La Baïonnette", "Fantasio", "Les Feuillets d'Art", "La Gazette du Bon Ton", "Femina", "Harper's Bazar' ", "Modes et Manières d'Aujourd'hui", "Vogue" Il a exposé régulièrement au Salon des Artistes Décorateurs de 1912 jusqu'à sa mort. En 1920 il participait à l'exposition du Musée des Arts Décoratifs à Paris: "La mode au XXème siècle vue parles peintres", représentant ce qu'on a nommé par la suite "l'Art Déco". On montre encore ses dessins aujourd'hui lors d'expositions sur cette époque, ce fut le cas en 1971 à Minéapolis aux U.S.A., et à Paris en 1973 (Bénézit, I, p.432). Une grande rétrospective lui fut consacré à Venise ("George Barbier The birth of Art Deco" 2008). "Les Artistes du Livre" N°10-George Barbier. Cette aquarelle met en scène un cosaque pour une revue d'un spectacle parisien.‎

Cet habit de Lieutenant est réalisé dans un drap de velours rouge, agrémenté de passementeries et d'une chemise blanche à jabots. Il est coiffé d'une perruque surmontée d'un chapeau. Les longues bottes de cuir font parties intégrantes de la tenue. Dessin reproduit dans l'ouvrage "Folies Bergères" de Jacques Crépineau. Traces de colle et de papier collant au verso du dessin, infimes salissures.‎

‎Summary As the forerunners to the Paris Opera, the Acad mie d'op ras (1669-1672) and the Acad mie royale de musique (1672-1791) inspired first historical then aesthetic research, research that appeared very steadily through the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, researchers and performers alike began to change their perspective on the institution and its legacy, shifting away from the Acad mie's image as a tool used in the propaganda machine and towards a focus on aspects of performance practice. However, despite the scale and diversity of the current body of scholarship, many facets of the Acad mie royale de musique remain unexplored. It was first and foremost a cultural institution, one that developed its own identity and savoir-faire, some aspects of which still need to be uncovered. ? This study aims to reconsider the institution from a new angle, thanks to an interdisciplinary approach and three sustained motivations: questioning the institution's very nature, as well as its place and status in the French academic network; highlighting practical, logistical, and material questions as yet unexplored; and reevaluating not only its interactions with other theaters in Paris, at court, and in the provinces, but also the ways its repertoire spread in general. For once, poets and composers are not the main subject. We choose to concentrate instead on those who helped the pieces to exist and to come to life: directors and administrators, performers, teachers, and craftsmen. The papers focus on their hierarchical relationships, their decision-making authority, and their respective responsibilities, in order to better understand all that the fashioning of operas entails.
