Blattgröße 47,1:34,9 cm. ? Insgesamt leicht gebräunt, der rechte Blattrand mit kleinem Einriss. - Provenienz: Jeanne-Mammen-Gesellschaft; Fischer Fine Art, London, dort 1980 vom Vorbesitzer erworben. - Literatur: Döpping/Klünner Z 282; abgeb. in: Der Querschnitt, Heft 9, Jg. 12, September 1932, S. 631.‎

‎Jeanne Mammen zählt sicher zu den schillerndsten Künst­lerpersönlichkeiten unserer Zeit. Als Tochter eines wohl­habenden Kaufmannes wächst sie frei von finanziellen Sorgen ab etwa 1895 in Paris auf. Wohl gefördert von ihrem Elternhaus beginnt sie hier 1906 das Studium an der Académie Julien. Zur Weiterbildung geht sie 1908 nach Brüssel an die Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts und 1911 an die Scuola Libera Villa Medici in Rom. Nach Paris 1911 zurückgekehrt veranstaltet sie schon im darauffolgenden Jahr eine erste Ausstellung ihrer Werke in ihrem Atelier. Darüber hinaus nimmt sie an den Ausstellungen der ?Indépendants? in Paris teil. Bei Ausbruch des 1. Weltkrieges muss sie mit der wegen Beschlagnahmung aller Besitztümer durch die Franzosen mittellos gewordene Familie das Land verlassen, kommt erst nach Holland, 1915 nach Berlin. Hier sucht sie mit steigendem Erfolg durch Illustrationen, Modezeichnungen oder etwa Kino­plakaten für die Ufa, ihren Lebensunterhalt zu bestreiten. Schließlich wird sie Mitarbeiterin der Zeitschrift ?Simpli­cissimus? und anderer satirischer Blätter wie die ?Lustige Blätter?, ?Uhu? und ?Ulk?. Diese gesellschaftskritischen und satirischen Zeichnungen und Aquarelle, Milieustudi­en, Szenen aus Bars und von Kleinkunstbühnen, Bordellen und der Straße bescheren ihr in der zweiten Hälfte der 20er Jahre wachsendes Ansehen und ein ausreichendes Einkommen. Schon zu Beginn ihres Schaffens ist die Fokussierung auf Frauendarstellungen festzustellen, eben­so wie die Beziehungen zwischen Mann und Frau, aber auch die zwischen Frau und Frau. Eine Ausstellung im Oktober/November 1930 in der Galerie Fritz Gurlitt folgt. Ein Jahr zuvor hat sie eine Reise in die Sowjetunion unter­nommen. 1933 wird ihre Karriere durch die Nationalsozi­alisten abrupt unterbrochen. Ihre Reaktion darauf ist die totale Abkehr von der bisherigen Malweise. Zugleich be­ginnt sie als Plastikerin zu arbeiten. Die Zeit nach 1933 bringt bald den Verlust ihrer Verdienstmöglichkeiten durch Verbot oder ?Gleichschaltung? der Zeitschriften; für die ?Angepassten? hätte sie ohnehin nicht arbeiten wollen. So sucht sie sich etwa mit Bücherverkauf ? umher­ziehend mit einem Karren ? über Wasser zu halten. Nach dem Krieg entstehen aus Mangel an Farben Materialbilder aus Draht und Kordel. Ab 1949 entwirft sie für das exis­tentialistische Kabarett ?Die Badewanne? Kostüme und Bühnenbilder. Erste Ausstellungsbeteiligungen finden schon 1945 statt. Reisen, die sie sich endlich leisten kann, folgen. Künstlerisch ist bald die allmähliche Annäherung an die Abstraktion zu beobachten.‎

From the library of James Stephen "Steve" Fossett with his bookplate to the front pastedown. American businessman and record-setting aviator Steve Fossett became the first person to fly solo nonstop around the world in 2002 in his 10-story high balloon Spirit of Freedom. He completed the 2002 trip in 13 days 8 hours and 33 minutes and set records for both the Longest Distance Flown Solo in a Balloon and Fastest Balloon Flight Around the World. Fosset was also one of sailing's most prolific distance record holders set the Absolute World Speed Record for airships with a Zeppelin NT in 2004. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his career including aviation's highest award the Gold Medal of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale FAI which he was awarded in 2002. Fossett disappeared on September 3 2007 while flying a light aircraft over the Great Basin Desert between Nevada and California. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket photograph by Robert W. Wie die rückseitige Beschreibung der Helme in englischer Sprache nahelegt, könnte das Blatt in der Londoner Zeit entstanden sein. Manskirchs Arbeiten sollen selten sein !!‎

‎Der Sohn des Hofmalers des Kurfürsten von Trier B.G. Manskirch (1736-1817) war seit etwa 1770 in Köln tätig, seit 1773 in London, wo er an den Ausstellungen der Royal Academy bis 1819 teilnahm. 1805/06 hielt er sich im Rheinland auf, wo er im Auftrag der französischen Exkaiserin Josephine Ansichten der Gegend um Aachen konzipierte. 1822 arbeitete er als Lehrer an der Danziger Kunstschule, 1825 für Prestel in Frankfurt am Main. Danach zog er wieder nach Danzig.‎

‎Dessin à la mine de plomb et au lavis, 25,5 x 34 cm, signé en bas à gauche, milieu XIX ème siècle. Cachet à froid non identifié. Encadré sous verre dans une baguette doré XIX ème siècle.‎

‎Très beau dessin original d'après Théodore-Henri Mansson (1811-1850) ayant servi pour la lithographie incluse dans Le Moyen Age Monumental et Archéologique de Chapuy, Paris, Hauser, 1843. Le parvis de l'église est animé d'une foule de personnages en costume moyenageux. On remarque l'ancienne flèche du clocher qui fut tronquée en 1791 et 1794, l'essentiel de sa couverture de plomb doré fut enlevé pour être fondu en balles de fusil. La présence de l'horloge sur le fronton de l'église daterait ce dessin après sa pose, soit 1855, et ne peut donc pas être de Mansson. Théodore-Henri Mansson, peintre d'architecture et aquarelliste, est né à Rouen en 1811, mort à Bruxelles en 1850. Il exposa au Salon de 1834 à 1849. Il exécuta des aquarelles pleines de vivacité sur la ville de Rouen. Bénézit, Tanguy: Rouen aux 100 clochers.‎
