Unique édition, peu commune.C'est précisément au médecin-dentiste particulièrement actif qu'était Joseph Audibran (mort en 1867) que l'on doit en mai 1845 la création de la Société de chirurgie dentaire de Paris,qui réunit une soixantaine de confrères dentistes "munis d'un diplôme" c'est-à-dire de docteur ou d'officier de santé. Le but officiel était la défense de ces dentistes diplômés et la poursuite en justice de "dentistes marrons" (selon l'expression d'Audibran) non diplômés. Audibran reçut les encouragements du doyen Orfila et des grands chirurgiens de l'époque comme Roux et Velpeau. Pour Roux "nul de devrait exercer l'art du dentiste s'il ne possède pas le titre de docteur ou au moins celui d'officier de santé et qu'en conséquence les dentistes pourvus de ces diplômes font nécessairement partie du corps médical"‎
