‎Originalausgabe. Japanischsprachige Ausgabe. Forrer (Hokusai), Seite 5 f. Michener 25 (u.a.). Durchweg mit oft doppelblattgroßen Holzschnitten. Mit einem Vorwort von Shikitei Samba (1776-1822). Hokusai (1760-1849) war einer der bedeutendsten Künstler der Edo-Zeit und ein wichtiger Vertreter des ukiyo-e. Anlass für die berühmte 15-bändige Serie der Mangas scheint ein Besuch in Nagoya im Jahr 1812 gewesen zu sein, wo Hokusai mehrfach um Unterricht im Zeichnen gebeten wurde. Die so entstandenen Zeichnungen Hokusais wurden später noch einmal überarbeitet und zunächst im ersten Band versammelt, dann erfolgsbedingt noch weitere Skizzen in den übrigen 14 Bänden zusammengefasst. Die Holzschnitte der Skizzenbücher sind jeweils schwarz, weiß und hautfarben. Jeder der Mangabände ist einem bestimmten Thema untergeordnet und in sich abgeschlossen. Der vorliegende Band wird dominiert von landschaftlichen Motiven, beispielsweise einer Ansicht auf den Mishima-Pass in der Kai-Provinz und den Ono-Wasserfall in der Shinano-Provinz. Die Skizzenbücher waren extrem populär und wurden in hoher Frequenz nachgedruckt. Die frühen Ausgaben kaum zu unterscheiden, daher eine Erstausgabe nicht mit abschließender Sicherheit bestimmbar. Spätere Nachdrucke ab 1828 allerdings enthalten ein Publikationsdatum, daher lässt sich die vorliegende Ausgabe zeitlich einordnen und stimmt ansonsten mit den Merkmalen der Erstausgabe überein. Broschur leicht berieben, Fadenbindung an einer Stelle gerissen (Bindung dennoch fest), Stempel auf den Innendeckeln, in den Außenstegen wie üblich etwas knapp beschnitten (ohne Bildberührung, minimaler Textverlust im sich wiederholenden Titelschriftzug dort), ein Faden der Bindung gerissen (Bindung dennoch fest). Sehr gutes Exemplar. Original edition. Japanese language edition. Forrer (Hokusai), page 5 f. Michener 25 (among others). Throughout with woodcuts (often with double-page). With a foreword by Shikitei Samba (1776-1822). Hokusai (1760-1849) was one of the most important artists of the Edo period and an important representative of ukiyo-e. The decisive impluse for the famous 15-volume series of manga appears to have been a visit to Nagoya in 1812, where Hokusai was asked several times for drawing lessons. Hokusai's resulting drawings were later revised again and initially collected in the first volume, then, due to their success, further sketches were summarized in the remaining 14 volumes. The wooden pieces of the sketchbooks are black, white and skin-coloured. Each of the manga volumes is dedicated to a specific topic and is self-contained. The present volume is dominated by landscape motifs, for example a view of the Mishima Pass in Kai Province and the Ono Waterfall in Shinano Province. The sketchbooks were extremely popular and were reprinted at high frequency. The earliest editions are identical to one another, so it cannot be determined with absolute certainty which is a first edition. However, later reprints from 1828 onwards contain a publication date, so the present edition can be classified in time and otherwise corresponds to the features of the first edition. Softcover slightly rubbed, one thread torn (binding nevertheless tight), stamps on inner covers, margins, as usual, narrowly trimmed (without touching the image, outer margin with minimal loss of text in the repeated title lettering), one thread of the binding is torn (binding is still tight ). Very good copy.‎
