Mounted gelatin silver photograph of Willkie presumably during the campaign of 1940. c. 12 x 10 inches mounted to 20 x 16 inches. The verso with the photographer's stamp Greenhaus photographed for the New York Times and a label of the Press Photographer's Association of New York stating that this photograph was included its Sixth Annual Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry Rockefeller Center NY March 29 to April 27 1941. Wendell Willkie 1892-1944 was a lawyer and utilities executive who was the Republican candidate for the US Presidency in 1940. The sandwich mount is not archival showing some discoloration at the bevel and chipping at the edges but the photograph appears to be in very good condition. unknown books‎

From the text: “Dear Walter Just a note to advise you that the story of my life is about to be completed. It is to be entitled ‘My Cock-eyed Past’ by Ben Turpin as told to Willis Gordon Brown. It is to be submitted for magazine publication first and then with elaborations to be published in book form. At 66 I look back upon a stage career in the ‘gay nineties’ and a movie career starting with ‘Broncho Billy’ Anderson in 1908 both I believe containing interesting anecdotes and quite a bit of humor. Any ‘plugs’ tossed this way will be deeply appreciated by an old-timer. Sincerely Ben Turpinâ€. With creases from folding and a bit of age-toning else fine. Ben Turpin 1869 - 1940 was a great slapstick film and stage comedian with a cross-eyed expression best known for his work with Mack Sennett. Original final draft shooting script with color rewrite pages for the feature film The Mephisto Waltz written by Ben Maddow adapted from the novel by Fred M. Stewart co-starring Bradford Dillman and directed by Paul Wendkos. This was Dillman’s working script with his extensive notations throughout. Bradbound in printed studio covers 131 pages dated May 5 1970. With Dillman’s estate stamp which reads “From the Library of Bradford Dillmanâ€. Very good plus copy with a hint of use. Dillman co-starred with Alan Alda Jacqueline Bisset Barbara Parkins William Windom Curd Jurgens and Curt Lowens. The film’s title is taken from the piano work by Franz Liszt and tells the story of a pianist’s Alda failed career as a performing musician who as a result turns to music journalism as a second choice with murder and Satanic themes involved. It is interesting to note that this production was the only big-screen work of veteran television producer Quinn Martin. Bradford Dillman 1930-2018 was one of Hollywood’s best regarded actors among his peers and the public. He was trained at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg and knew James Dean in early television. Dillman rose to sudden fame with his appearance in Richard Fleisher’s film Compulsion 1959 with Dean Stockwell and Orson Welles and continued in movies throughout his career in such films as The Way We Were The Iceman Cometh The Enforcer Sudden Impact Crack in the Mirror Escape From the Planet of the Apes Francis of Assisi Piranha The Swarm etc. A great success in television Dillman appeared in a remarkable number of shows and made for TV movies in a variety of genres including Mission Impossible The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
