Ben-Gurion</i></p><p><b>Nora Lebenschuß Hauben</b> 1918-2006 was born in Saxony Germany. She survived for three years in a labor camp. In 1947 or 1948 she emigrated to Palestine and lived in Haifa for more than ten years before moving to Ramat-Gan. Working as a saleswoman librarian and freelance writer she was a founding member of an association of German-speaking writers in Israel. She married Robert Hauben 1910-1958. She wrote to many famous literary and political figures around the world and often received responses.</p><p><b>David Ben-Gurion</b> 1886-1973 was born in the Kingdom of Poland then part of the Russian Empire as David Grün and he studied at the University of Warsaw. In 1906 he immigrated to Palestine which was part of the Ottoman Empire. In 1912 he moved to Constantinople to study law and adopted the Hebrew name Ben-Gurion. He supported the Ottoman Empire in World War I but was deported to Egypt and traveled to the United States where he remained for three years. After the Balfour Declaration of 1917 he joined the Jewish Legion of the British Army. He returned to Palestine after the war and became a leader of the Zionist movement. As head of the Jewish Agency from 1935 Ben-Gurion was effectively the leader of the Jewish population before there was a nation. He accepted the 1947 partition plan as a compromise that would establish a Jewish state and declared the independence of the state of Israel in May 1948. After leading Israel during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War Ben-Gurion won election as Prime Minister of Israel in 1948 as head of the Labour party in the Knesset. Except for nearly two years in the mid-1950s Ben-Gurion served as Israeli Prime Minster until 1963.</p> books‎

‎Shahn Ben‎

‎Vintage World War II Poster: THIS IS NAZI BRUTALITY .‎

‎Washington DC: GPO / Office of War Information 1942. Folio broadside 38 x 28"; 97 x 72 cm scant. Printed by offset lithography in colors with OWI/GPO imprint and date in extreme lower margin. Professionally linen mounted lower margin with imprint retained top and side margins trimmed. With signs of minor color fill at apexes of top folds but otherwise a very good to fine bright example. Rolled. An exceptionally powerful image prepared by Shahn in response to the massacre at Lidice depicting a shackled and hooded man against a brick wall with the dated newswire report of the Lidice massacre superimposed over the figure and the brilliant red caption: "This is Nazi Brutality." Shahn worked for the OWI from the Autumn of 1942 until the Summer of the following year and although he produced a number of images for the agency only two were actually utilized -- the others were dismissed as too violent or as not sufficiently appropriate to the topic of the home front. Shortly thereafter he began his work with the CIO-PAC. GPO / Office of War Information unknown books‎

‎Jonson Ben‎

‎THE WORKS OF BEN JONSON WHICH WERE FORMERLY PRINTED IN TWO VOLUMES ARE NOW REPRINTED IN ONE. TO WHICH IS ADDED A COMEDY CALLED THE NEW INN. WITH ADDITIONS NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED‎

‎London: Printed by Thomas Hodgkin . 1692. 12264281-368371-2371-382393-7444pp. Folio signed in 4s; 14.5 x 9.25"; 368 x 237mm. Modern paneled dark brown calf raised bands gilt spine labels with earlier gilding to all edges. Engraved portrait of Jonson engraved by Elder after Vaughn. Portrait and title a bit foxed inky marginal smear to E31r; some old spotting to C2-4 3A4 and 4C4-4D4; 3C1-2 on inferior paper and tanned as usual; top edge of 3Y3 shows a bit of slight fraying; other occasional marginal smudges dusting or trivial spotting; otherwise generally a very good crisp copy. Third and last folio edition but the first in one volume adding "The New Inn" and "Leges Convivales" which were not included in the collected editions of 1616 and 1640. The characteristic poor paper and tanning of 3C1-2 often extend to 2Z2-3 which are here relatively unblemished. The final two leaves are turned over to the "Leges Convivales" with its own title and imprint. This copy although in a modern binding measures somewhat larger than the Hagen-Pforzheimer copy which is noted as in original calf. ESTC R15282. PFORZHEIMER 561. ‎Hichens Robert source work: Hitchcock Alfred; Alma Reville; James Bridie; Ben Hecht and David O. Selznick screenwriters‎

‎THE PARADINE CASE DIALOGUE CUTTING CONTINUITY‎

‎Culver City: Selznick International Pictures 1948. Foliated by reel format. Quarto. Mimeographed typescript printed on rectos only. Bradbound in pale blue stencil printed wrappers. Wrappers a trace dust smudged short snag at one brad else near fine. A dialogue cutting continuity script for this adaptation to the screen of Hichens' 1933 novel. Selznick had acquired the film rights to the novel prior to its publication but submission of a preliminary script in 1934 to the Breen Office resulted in assurances that it would not pass muster according to the PCA. So the project was shelved until Selznick returned to it in 1946. It is clear that at that time scripts from the 1934 effort as well as from an adaptation attempted at MGM were consulted. Interim drafts of the script were written by Alfred Hitchcock and Alma Reville First Rough Draft April 1946 and James Birdie Third draft based on an adaptation by Reville August 1946 until finally in December a "Final Shooting Script" was reached with interim uncredited contributions by Ben Hecht. The final shooting script is credited solely to David O. Selznick but acknowledges dependence on the adaptation by Alma Reville. Final screen credit for the screenplay fell to Selznick and neither Hecht's nor Birdie's contributions were credited. Hitchcock directed and Gregory Peck Ann Todd Charles Laughton Ethel Barrymore in a role that earned an Oscar nomination and Louis Jourdan starred among others and a 29 December 1947 premiere brought to a conclusion the long and tangled series of attempts to bring Hichens' novel to the screen. One of a finite group of duplicates from the Selznick archive now entering the market via the Serendipity dispersal. Selznick International Pictures unknown books‎

An unproduced screenplay adaptation of Ben Hecht's short story "The Shadow" in which the magician Sarastro seeks vengeance against his brother for the alienation of his wife. The script is uncredited but at least one reference i.e. Wikipedia attribute this script to Australian-born screenwriter and playwright Ivan Goff and his frequent collaborator Ben Roberts.
