‎Contre l’architecture pragmatique et l’urbanisme inhumain, la revue « Toshi-Jûtaku » exprime sa position en tant que support de discours humaniste sur l’architecture. Elle ne parle plus d’architecture, mais consacre ses pages à la recherche sur les concepts extensifs de l’architecture, la ville (Toshi) et l’habitat (Jûtaku), l’architecture comme espace ou encore comme environnement autour de l’homme. Visant à détruire les formes canoniques des revues d’architecture fondées avant la guerre, comme « Shinkenchiku (Nouvelle Architecture) » et « Kokusai Kenchiku (Architecture Internationale », la revue « Toshi-Jûtaku » apporte plusieurs innovations dans son graphisme et son contenu. Les cent numéros (du 1 au 100) sont publiés sous la direction de Makoto Ueda. Son manifeste exprime : « la conception graphique elle-même est notre expression de l’habitat-ville » ; les textes et les images construisent un espace expérimental, créant un nouveau langage visuel ou les techniques contemporaines de photographie et photomontage sont particulièrement mises à contribution pour effectuer l’analyse des éléments urbains.(103888)‎

Architecutre Exhibition la Biennale di Venezia. - Der Katalog für den Bahrainer Pavillon an der Architekturbiennale Venedig überzeugt dank einem unangestrengten Umgang mit heterogenem Bildmaterial. Auf 100 Seiten werden in chronologischer Reihenfolge 100 Gebäude vorgestellt. Sie sind durch jeweils eine bis vier schwarzweisse Abbildungen unterschiedlicher Art und Herkunft dokumentiert die auf hellgelbe Hintergründe gedruckt und hierarchielos miteinander kombiniert werden. Die laufend variierenden Formate und Anordnungen orientieren sich zwar an einem Raster doch auf so subtile Weise dass der Eindruck intuitiver Kompositionen überwiegt. Die Bilder scheinen geradezu zu tanzen und jede Doppelseite ist ebenso überraschend wie gelungen. Im anschliessenden Textteil der auf den linken Seiten in Arabisch und auf den rechten Seiten in Englisch verläuft kommen die beiden Schriftsysteme einander in der typografischen Erscheinung verblüffend nahe. Ein spektakuläres Detail ist das einzige vier- farbige Foto im Buch das wie zufällig auf einer der Bild-Doppelseiten auftaucht. The book reproduces two hundred full-page duotones of Diane Arbus photographs spanning her entire career.
