Burlap covered boards with matted color photograph mounted to front. 22-ring clasp metal binding. 27 yellow construction paper pages containing 53 approximately 8" x 10" photographs 47 black and white 6 color mounted both recto and verso. Several related news clippings and articles loosely laid-in. Split in burlap at joint though cover securely attached. Title photograph on front board with substantial fingerprinting handling wear. Age toning to edges of interior paste-downs and occasionally at page edges. Five photos with tiny areas of image loss from having stuck to the print mounted opposite. Otherwise contents bright clean and well-preserved. About very good. <br/><br/>Album carefully documenting the construction of The Kent Theaters Plaza "Rocking Chair" Theater on Phillips Highway U.S. Hwy #1 in Jacksonville FL which opened its doors January 27 1967. Photographs thoroughly detail construction from groundbreaking to completion: concrete placement steel erection masonry interior construction placement of the rooftop A/C unit signage projector and speaker installation workers and laborers as well as finished shots of the theater's interior and exterior. All black and white construction images dated beginning 9/1/66 and ending 1/23/67. The six color photos are undated though were likely captured on or around the theater's opening day to showcase the finished work. A full page color ad from January 26 1967 issue of the JACKSONVILLE JOURNAL is laid-in. The Plaza's amenities including ample parking "1000 FREE PARKING SPACES" according to the ad rocking chair seats and easy access to expressways marked a sea change in options for the moviegoing public - a move that culminates in our modern multiplexes. A handsome near fine copy in good dustwrapper. Wrapper has a long irregular closed tear to the front panel but it still presents quite well. This copy has been INSCRIBED by Ferriss and dated in 1955. First edition of this very scarce and impressive treatise on 18th-century Austro-Hungarian architecture structural civil and mechanical engineering. Brust was the Royal Architect in Prague at the end of the 18th century and intended this treatise to aid architects and builders in Central Europe during the Napoleonic era. Reflecting the heavy influences of Baroque and Classicism styles at the time he has included numerous detailed plans and instructions on building trusses for roofs from the simple to incredibly large and elaborate. He has even included the spread sheet for materials and costs for constructing the truss and roof to a large public or private building plate 6. There are numerous different church steeples bell towers and even domes with detailed designs and instructions. In addition he has included instructions for building a large industrial wine press; well-drilling equipment; construction cranes for lifting trusses and stone; Japanese gardens; pile driving equipment; constructing bridge piers and timber bridges; the gates for locks in irrigation canals and transportation canals; and finally a detailed plate for water wheels and equipment -- 1 of which using an Archimedes screw. Some creasing and overfolds to folded plates scattered dusting and light foxing plate XXV detached from its extension and a trifle frayed at the fore-edge; just a good copy suitable for rebinding. Second edition first published in 1805. As the title suggests this is a practical manual rather than a treatment of history or aesthetics. The visual component is comprised largely of schematics and renderings of column designs with some attention to decorative detailing and stairways including precise measurements. The plates bear captions in French and German and many bear cutlines attributing them to "Champion sc." Embossed blue-green cloth over beveled boards gilt lettering on front cover & spine minor rubbing shelfwear some very minor creasing still a VG copy. First edition of this scarce architectural & local history of the churches rectory and vicarage of Upton Chalvey and Slough which until the reforms of 1894 were known as Upton-cum-Chalvey. Until 1974 the hamlets were located in Buckinghamshire but are now in Berkshire England. Upton’s Norman Church was begun in 1121 by Gilbert Norman and Henry I by the Convent of Augustinian Cannons at Merton. Of particular interest is that this was the marriage and burial place of Sir William Herschel famed astronomer who discovered the planet Uranus. The albumen photos are crisp and sharp.
