In addition the advertisement for the Aquaplane consisting of a piece of mahogany board fitted with rope tow loops would make any water skier long for the modern wakeboard. The Hill-Standard Co. was founded in 1900 but the first catalogue was issued about 1905 for Irish Mail pedal cars children’s slides beach umbrellas and other playground equipment. ARCHITECTURE PARKING GARAGES. SPRAGUE Frank Julian.
Westinghouse vertical parking machine. A practical solution of the parking problem and an aid to traffic congestion. . . S.P. 1917; Westinghouse vertical parking machine. F.8240. . .
East Pittsburgh PA: Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Co. ca. 1930; 1932. Two vols. 4to. 8 pp. With diagrams photo illustrations. Beige printed softcovers w/ Art Deco design denoting the vertical parking garage on front cover brown lettering minor dustsoiling shelfwear minor rubbing still VG copy; 4 pp. With diagram of Chicago parking machine photo of East Pittsburgh parking machine on back cover minor dustsoiling NF copy. First editions of these scarce catalogues promoting the ground-breaking “Vertical Parking Machine†developed by Westinghouse to ease inner-city congestion based on “ferris-wheel†parking garage designs first introduced in 1923 and in concert with Frank Sprague 1857-1934 famed inventor. The first catalogue details the ease of the driver pulling onto the parking slip and leaving the machine and he is the only driver handling the car. In addition the test machines first built in East Pittsburgh at the Westinghouse Plant were coin operated and the system was marketed as a money making vending venture. The second catalogue details the newly opened 48-car Westinghouse Vertical Parking Machine located on Monroe St. in Chicago in the space equivalent of 6 parking spaces and which operated with ease for years. Unfortunately the Great Depression sidelined this parking innovation and after World War II more conventional self-parking garages began to be introduced. A British Pathe News Reel film from 1932 still exists which shows the operation and parking of cars in the Westinghouse marvel. No copies located of 1st Catalogue in Worldcat; 2nd Catalogue is located in 1 library Hagley. Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Co., paperback

C. 1950 Architectural Rendering of A Restaurant on an Island By R.D. Fraser with an Overhead view as Well as Side View
Very nicely done ink line and wash drawing signed R.D. Fraser lower right; a highly detailed 'concept' architectural item with landscaping tables noted around the dining area bar dance floor and outer patio deck swimming pool dock area; restaurant and amenities take up the entire space of this 'island'; we speculate the architect may have had in mind one of the small Florida Keys or perhaps one of the Bahamas for a site; drawing approx. 20" x 3" size; done on Royal-Crest Illustrating Board manufactured by Hurlock Bros. Company Inc. Philadelphia; no date but circa 1950; some edge tips wear and soiling some spotting over the image a few old mounting holes and dents in cardstock; still in good condition and interesting architectural history an unusual subject well-treated. .
