Paul Clemen (1866-1947) was a German art historian known in particular for his large inventory of monuments in the Rhineland area, many of which were destroyed or severely damaged in World War II. Includes numerous b&w illustrations. 315x235mm. 515 pages. Beige board Hardcover with off-white cloth spine. Pages upper edge gilt. Front cover is etched and criss-crossed with black ink engravings. Sticker with gilt lettering on front cover. Cover corners and edge bumped and peeling. Front cover bottom edge slightly stained. Spine stained and worn. Spine edges worn and peeling, spine front hinge partly cracked. Paul Clemen's signature and dedication on front whitrepageBinding loose and visible between pre-title and title pages and rear endpaper and whitepage. Text-block slightly stained. Pages 499-515 bottom edge glue-stained - no damage to the text. Pages upper corner bumped/wrinkled.
