‎Summary In the twelfth century, a widely circulated hypothesis about the descendants of St Anne, mother of the Virgin, included the idea that Salome, the mother of the disciples James and John, was in fact a man and St Anne's third husband. Two scholars mounted a challenge: Maurice of Kirkham, prior of the Augustinian abbey of Kirkham in Yorkshire; and Herbert of Bosham, a former student of Peter Lombard and a companion of Thomas Becket. Both men employed scholastic methods of enquiry and knowledge of Hebrew; both decried the acceptance of a flawed hypothesis about the genealogy of the Virgin as symbolic of an uncritical acceptance of scholastic authorities with the potential to distort comprehension of the Gospels. This volume provides the first edition and translation of Maurice's Contra Salomitas, in both its short and long versions. It also provides an edition and translation of Herbert's letter to Henry, count of Champagne. A substantial introduction outlines the long evolution of the debate about the kin of Jesus, and situates Maurice and Herbert in the context of their twelfth-century scholastic milieu. ‎Bilingual greek-english exhibition catalogue. Soft cover 21 cm 339 pp. 305 pictures and drawings; includes 74 projects and designs from 1952 to the present day some of which were carried out others which were never built and includes photographs designs sketches and a short description of each project undertaken by the architect. To be specific the catalogue presents: 7 early works; 15 planning developmental designs and tourist projects; 9 cultural projects; 16 urban buildings and banks; 9 revisions and additions to existing buildings; 1 industrial space; and 17 single family dwellings. // C. Dekavallas was born in Athens in 1925. He studied at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens N.T.U.A. 1948; at Columbia University New York 1953; and the University of London 1956. On returning to Greece he worked on the Asteras tourist complex in Glyfada and subsequently at the Ministry of Public Works in charge of the Reconstruction of Santorini. From 1960 to 1969 he was the architect for the National Bank of Greece while from 1960 to the present day he has maintained an architectural and town-planning design practice. In 1980 he was elected a professor of the N.T.U.A. School of Architecture. The four “credos†of C. Dekavallas which reflect both his personality and his work are: incorporating a building into its natural environment and utilising bioclimatic architecture; respect for the structural environment; organically incorporating visual arts into a building; and most importantly the knowledge and joy an architect has in collaborating with a team. His oeuvre includes studies from the largest scale of architecture down to the very smallest scale; carried out by himself or with a team of collaborators but always displaying the same consistency and sensitivity. // C.
