Le Chateau de Hex, dans la commune de Heers en Hesbaye, date du xviiie siecle et est entoure de jardins de differents styles et de parcs paysagers de la meme epoque. Le batiment, un edifice de style classique en forme de U, fut construit vers 1770 pour servir de residence d??™ete et de pavillon de chasse au comte Charles de Velbruck, prince-eveque de Liege. Velbruck etait un humaniste eclaire, feru d??™art, de science et de nature. Le chateau etait son bien personnel et alla a ses heritiers, qui en sont toujours les proprietaires et continuent de l??™entretenir avec amour et respect. Les plantations et jardins du chateau ont egalement ete conserves et entretenus avec soin au fil des siecles. Ils sont notamment reputes pour leur collection de roses anciennes et sauvages, encore constituee pour une part des rosiers originaux du xviiie siecle. Le potager de deux hectares, avec son cellier a legumes traditionnel toujours en usage, et le parc paysager a l??™anglaise ne sont que quelques-unes des autres raisons de visiter Hex, que ce soit a travers cet ouvrage ou dans la realite. Hardcover met stofomslag, 28 x 23 cm., 228pp., 200 illustraties in kleur. ISBN 9789061537441. Het Kasteel van Hex, in de gemeente Heers in Haspengouw, werd gebouwd in de 18de eeuw en wordt omringd door diverse stijl- en landschapstuinen uit dezelfde periode. Het kasteel, een U-vormige constructie in classicistische stijl, werd rond 1770 opgetrokken als zomerverblijf en jachtslot voor Graaf Karel van Velbruck, prins-bisschop van Luik. Velbruck was een verlichte humanist, met grote voorliefde voor kunsten, wetenschappen en natuur. Het lusthof was zijn persoonlijke eigendom en ging over naar zijn erfgenamen, die het ook nu nog altijd in bezit hebben en met liefde en respect onderhouden. Ook de kasteeltuinen en beplanting zijn door de eeuwen heen bewaard gebleven en met zorg onderhouden. Een van de hoogtepunten vormt de collectie oude en wilde rozen, gedeeltelijk nog de originele 18de-eeuwse struiken. De moestuin van twee hectare, met bijbehorende traditionele groentekelder, nog steeds in gebruik, en een park in Engelse landschapsstijl vormen slechts enkele van de andere redenen om Hex in dit boek ??“ of in het echt ??“ een bezoek te brengen. De tuinen van Hex vormen een arcadisch landschap van grote schoonheid en authenticiteit. Nieuw boek.
