‎"Ce livre, qui s'insère dans la même collection que "l'Art monumental roman en France" de Marcel Aubert, Marcel Pobé et Joseph Gantner et "l'Art roman en Espagne" de Marcel Durliat, offre la même présentation luxueuse. Les photos de l' auteur sont proprement admirables et révèlent des détails d'œuvres peu connues, même des spécialistes de l'art italien. L'économie de l'ouvrage est identique à celle des autres : texte de synthèse d'une cinquantaine de pages, commentaire précis des illustrations, pas de bibliographie malheureusement. Le texte de M. Decker est sérieux et documenté. I] a pris le parti de suivre un ordre géographique descendant par l'ouest, depuis la Lombardie – où se trouve inclus le Piémont – jusqu'à la Sicile, et, remontant par l'est jusqu'à la Vénétie. La plupart des archéologues français ont trop peu souci de ce qui s'est passé au delà de leurs frontières pour qu'on n'applaudisse pas à cette présentation magnifique de l'art hautain, toujours majestueux, souvent tourmenté et tragique que fut l'art roman d'Italie." Each of the rooms depicted is accompanied by two wallpaper samples featured in the color illustration of the room. An exceptionally clean detailed and beautifully illustrated catalog offering carpeting in a variety of styles with Deco patterns a dominant feature. Rear cover features an attractive full-page color illustration of a lounge or living room with stylish Deco carpeting. A useful piece of furniture in the room is described as an "interesting cocktail table" in which a door swings open to reveal alcoholic beverages with space for glasses etc. The table also accommodates a modest bookshelves and corner cupboard.
