‎The whole series of "Multiples & Editions" realized by Guillaume Bijl corresponds to his installations of a certain period: posters, small compositions, some "Sorry's" or tableaux vivants . Often, these multiples were created as an annex of temporary installations, or with the motivation to help non-pro t organizations, or to cover the costs. De Antwerpse kunstenaar Guillaume Bijl breekt in de jaren tachtig internationaal door met zijn 'transformatie-installaties'. Galerie n en musea transformeert hij tot banale en herkenbare commerci le of entertainmentsomgevingen zoals een tapijtenzaak, een supermarkt of een TV-Quizdecor. ‎De afgelopen jaren heb ik het voorrecht gehad meermaals te kunnen samenwerken met topfotograaf Eddy Van Gestel. Ik kan gerust stellen dat een fotoshoot met hem in geen enkel opzicht gelijkt op een shoot met eender welke andere fotograaf. Niet zozeer omdat ik voordien nog nooit naakt had geposeerd maar wel omwille van de manier waarop hij ons als model bij zijn kunstproject weet te betrekken. Als geen ander slaagt hij erin je mee te trekken in de wereld die hij wil cre ren, waardoor ik me niet louter model voelde, maar eerder de hoofdrolspeler in een verhaal dat veel verder reikt dan een verzameling uitzonderlijke foto?s. Ebony is zo?n verhaal. De vrouwen in dit boek zijn geen toevallige anonieme passanten maar mensen van vlees en bloed. Dat de modellen, zowel professioneel als niet-professioneel, zo waarachtig en zelfbewust in beeld komen en naar de lens kijken, heeft er alles mee te maken dat ze zich net als ikzelf volwaardig hebben gevoeld en vooraf de context kenden en geloofden in het ultieme doel van het concept. Ebony voelt voor mij als een vlucht uit het grijze, het gewone, het alledaagse van het leven. Half droom, half realiteit, waar er geen sprake is van dominantie en waar heden en verleden elkaar ontmoeten en moeiteloos en geloofwaardig in mekaar overvloeien. Waar de wereld aan onze voeten ligt, ons Afrikaanse vrouwen. Een wereld waarin we vrouw kunnen zijn in de puurste zin van het woord. Mooi, sensueel, elegant, trots op onze zwarte huid.
