‎Summary Le commentaire sur Zacharie est le seul, parmi ceux des Douze proph tes, pour lequel la principale source d'inspiration de J r me est conserv e. Pour les autres, ce sont les commentaires d'Orig ne, aujourd'hui perdus. Comme ils ne couvraient pas l'ensemble des Douze, J r me, de passage Alexandrie en 386, demanda Didyme de commenter pour lui Os e et Zacharie. Un exemplaire du commentaire de Zacharie figurait parmi les papyrus d couverts Toura en 1941. Son diteur a pr sent le commentaire de J r me comme une copie conforme de celui de Didyme. En r alit , la confrontation fait plut t ressortir la profonde originalit de J r me et sa position unique dans l'histoire de l'ex g se patristique. Contrairement son devancier, il se soucie d'abord d' tablir exactement la lettre du texte et d'en pr ciser le sens, en le situant dans son contexte et en recourant, si n cessaire, aux ex g tes h breux. Alors que l'Alexandrin se compla t dans des all gories dont le rapport au texte est souvent lointain et cultive une ex g se en quelque sorte hors sol, J r me prend soin de poser solidement le fondement de l'histoire avant d'exposer le sens spirituel qui s'en d gage. Il n'h site pas critiquer Didyme et se montre r serv l' gard de l'all gorie, qu'il juge superflue l o le sens de la proph tie est manifeste. Il constate que ceux qui donnent croire ainsi qu'ils en savent plus que les autres en affaiblissent souvent la port e en compliquant inutilement les choses. Quant la tradition manuscrite, complexe et mouvante, elle est ici plus souvent en faute que dans les six commentaires pr c demment dit s. Cela tient sans doute pour une part l' tat pr caire des exemplaires de l'antiquit tardive que les copistes carolingiens ont reproduit, et pour une part au fait que J r me a d travailler vite pour remettre son ouvrage au messager charg de le faire parvenir son d dicataire. ‎Summary The Crown and the Cross examines the heretofore-unstudied role of the French province of Burgundy in the 'traditional' era of the crusades, from 1095-c.1220. The book offers a spatial analysis of 33 domestic buildings applying geographer Jay Appleton's ""prospect and refuge"" theory and concepts of order and complexity to explain recurring patterns in fireplaces seating ceiling forms glazing terraces and roof overhangs examining how juxtapositions of visibility prospect and concealment refuge created intrinsically pleasurable spaces with evolutionary survival value across major works including Robie House Fallingwater and Usonian houses. In this book thirty-three of Wright's domestic buildings including all of the major houses on which his significance depends are analyzed in detail in terms of their spatial characteristics. Fireplaces seating ceiling form glazing terraces and roof overhangs are seen to follow a repetitive organization or pattern characterized by complementary juxtapositions of what the English geographer Jay Appleton calls ""prospect"" a condition in which one can see over a considerable distance and ""refuge"" a place where one can hide. According to Appleton's theory of landscape aesthetics this juxtaposition offers the ability to see without being seen or to hunt successfully without being in turn successfully hunted and thus eons ago had survival value. But such a condition must have been sought originally because it was intrinsically pleasurable to our species. Hildebrand finds a striking correlation in Wright's houses. Wright's pattern of prospect and refuge to which are added similarly derived qualities of complexity and order is show to be unique in domestic architecture to the degree to which it provides these preferred characteristics suggesting why -- in spite of serious drawbacks -- his house were built and valued by so many clients.The text of the book is enhanced by photographs plans and by nine exquisitely drawn diagrams of key dwellings specially prepared by William Hook.
