‎Summary Isaac Argyros was a leading astronomer and theologian of the late 14th century, who spent most of his life at the Chora monastery in Constantinople. Besides several works on astronomy, he wrote a number of treatises against the Palamites in the tradition of his teacher and mentor Nicephorus Gregoras: (1.) De quattuor modis participationis Dei; (2.) De lumine Transfigurationis ad Gedeonem Zographum; and (3.) Solutio quaestionis cuiusdam Palamiticae. Former emperor John Cantacuzenus composed a lenghty treatise against Argyrus (Contra Argyrum), in which he attacks the fact that Argyros and his followers deny three things: that the seven spirits referred to by Isaiah are uncreated; that the grace of God is uncreated; and that men receive gifts of God in an immediate manner. Together, the four texts in this edition shed light on an interesting chapter in the palamite controversy.‎

While Italy's colonial project spanned approximately sixty years, it was during the final decades - under Mussolini's regime - that music emerged as a subtle yet potent instrument of propaganda. Despite its importance, the intersection of Italian music and colonial politics has remained critically underexplored, often eclipsed by postwar narratives that sought to deny or obscure cultural complicity. Drawing on archival sources, colonial newspapers, Italian and international press, published and unpublished scores, and personal accounts, the book examines four domains of entanglement between music and imperial ideology: the projection of Italian cultural identity in Libya through opera houses and concert programming; the colonial staging of Arab musical and dance traditions to satisfy orientalist appetites; the overlooked field of Italian musical ethnography in colonial settings, marked by flawed methodology and rare sonic documentation; and the creation of propagandistic works endorsing imperial ambitions. Special attention is given to Libya under Governor Italo Balbo, including Radio Tripoli's role in circulating local music, and to compositions by Adriano Lualdi and Alfredo Casella that engaged with imperial themes. These case studies show how music was mobilized to affirm nationalism, legitimize domination, and shape perceptions of the Other. By reintegrating music into the historiography of Italian colonialism, this study reclaims a neglected dimension of twentieth-century culture, challenging enduring silences in both musicological and postcolonial scholarship. ‎Summary Le pr sent ouvrage porte sur la premi re martyre de la litt rature monoth iste, c'est- -dire la m re anonyme du 7 me chapitre du 2 me livre des Maccab es (2 M). L'ex g se qui y est faite d montre, gr ce une critique structurelle et des analyses narratologique, comparative et philologique, que ce personnage est central, autant dans le texte deut rocanonique que pour la martyrologie, bien qu'il soit g n ralement clips dans la litt rature savante. Or, la particuli re virilit des femmes martyres d'hier et d'aujourd'hui s'y inscrit en primeur au verset 7, 21 et la nouvelle traduction propos e par l'auteure bouscule les id es re ues. En effet, les habituels sentiments f minins deviennent une pens e f minine et le m le courage fait place une col re virile ou humaine , selon que l' pith te est compar e au f minin dans le parall lisme crois du verset ou mise en parall le avec les col res inhumaines de certains personnages masculins du livre, dont le roi Antiochos IV piphane et les guerriers jud ens. D'ailleurs, les analyses compar es des l ments identitaires de la martyre avec ceux du roi s leucide permettent de constater que son trouble dans le genre s'observe sur divers plans et contribue ind niablement son unicit . C'est sans compter que les discours de la m re repr sentent la plus importante innovation du livre, et ce, tant sur le plan anthropologique que th ologique.
